Utah voters in Beaver county show strong direct primary interest with 60 percent turnout in places. Nominations for 12 district and county posts will go to a run-off on September 27 to determine six November general election seats. Notable races include Dr. Pemklin S. Herris for U S senator and Leroy B. Young for congress in the first district. Roger I. MacDonough wins a state supreme court nomination. The Beaver Millard contest for state senator pits Grant H Tolton against Margret Cates Rehn.
Vernon Tolboe of Provo won the bid for the Beaver county school remodeling and new gym shop building project. The PWA funded plan covers 45 percent of costs as a grant. work must start by September 19 if approved by the San Francisco PWA HQ. Other bids ranged up to 132 510 from Salt Lake City firms.
Mr and Mrs Frank Kuchenmeister arrive home Wednesday from a vacation to Denver and Colorado. They were joined in Salt Lake by Mr Kuchenmeister sister and husband Me and Mrs C F Stafford of Great Falls Montana who accompany them. Reber Scott of Oxford Ohio had been guest of Mr and Mrs J F Tribole the past two weeks and leaves for home Monday.
The newly formed Youth council of the Community Methodist Episcopal church elected Elsie Finch as president Thorn Silliman as vice president and Virgil Winchester as secretary treasurer in a popular vote The group planned committees for social and missionary work for September 11. Mrs Mabel Severance Coleman 53 wife of Leonard Palmeroy Coleman died after a long illness Funeral services were set for Friday at Milford M E church.
The public service commission ordered Telluride Power Co to cut rates for residential commercial and church power across Beaver Garfield Piute Sevier Sanpete and Millard counties saving customers over 10000 annually. The change extends the 15 day bill payment window and cuts penalties to 0 percent boosting total savings to about 14260.
Mrs Don Skinner and her children Donnie and Merrie return to their home in Tooele after visiting relatives. Mr Skinner is accompanied by D A Workman who plans to spend a week with them and visit his daughter in Private.
Mr and Mrs Kenneth Smith and family refarmed the first of the week from Councal Bluffs Lews where they had been visiting.
Beaver county's first powl-de pression fair at Beavey ended Saturday with strong Milford cooperation. A three day program featured parades with Milford and Minersville bands, horse races at the Beaver race track, exhibits viewed by hundreds, rodeos with American Legion sponsorship, and a large dance. Gate receipts topped $500 daily amid lively contests and community display.

Washington residents once tuned in mainly for fights and elections now linger for primary results. Amid drought and civic events, the public awaits how Mr Roosevelt will respond to a partial victory.
A five room modern frame house with bath and basement will be built during the Witter by the building trades class at Branch Agricultural College Cedar City. It will stand on a five by twenty foot lot on Third West and Second South and be sold at public auction in the spring. The class, supervised by C B Cooley, has previously completed a men's dormitory and two other houses including the directors home. The program provides professional building training and is allied with the state department of vocational education led by Howard B Gunderson.
The American Legion Auxiliary held its annual installation Monday night at Ethel Smith's home. Beavers visitors Mrs. Melvin Witner and Mrs. Arnold Ashworth installed officers including Erma Cling as president and Bernlee Smith as first vice president. Prizes were awarded after the meeting as the activity committee hosted a luncheon for 18 women. Mining location notices for sale are listed at The News office.
