Harold Tomsik from Las Vegas visits his brother in town while Virgillie Galnouer from Riverside visits Margaret Moore. Dozens of townsfolk travel, hostesses plan gatherings, and local church and school events are announced around mid September with travel notes to Beaver Salt Lake City Taft and Beav er trips.
Union Pacific advances on a vast storage potato cellar with power shovels finishing excavation a new well drilled and walls started. Seven carloads of lumber about 186 000 board feet will be used plus a carload of cement and straw in large quantities. District interest grows as potato farming expands with plans for alfalfa or peas to ready land for more planting and a larger season.
The Susannah Camp of D. U. P. in Minersville held a corn roast and watermelon bust at Hanging Rock for county camps under Daughter Laura Corbridge. Beavers supplied sandwiches and cheese. The program included singing, prayers, greetings, readings, and a Ladies Chorus, with games and dancing to close as the camps pledged to meet often.
Milford hosts a Democratic rally at the L D S church tonight with keynote remarks by Milton H. Welling for secretary of state Joseph Chez for attorney general and Abe Murdock seeking Congress. The event invites all residents to attend as part of the district’s campaign events.
The Beaver Canyon Ponderosa pine near the Beaver River is measured at 152 feet tall and 52 inches in diameter, surpassing the state record of 132 feet. Geo P Low and Ole Boswell used a clinometer for the measurement and plan to ascend the tree to place a flag on the top branch.
D W Jeffs and Peter C Forrester arrived in Beaver to oversee the installation of the Forester Balanced Red Mill at the old factory site. The mill uses 4 to 7 HP per 50 ton unit and speeds up grinding, classification and amalgamation for gold recovery, with future units milled locally to avoid long hauls. Miss Marie Carlson left the hospital Tuesday after surgery and is recovering well.
Milford and Beaver opened with a seven inning loss for Milford as Beaver won on Saturday while Sunday saw Milford beat Minersville 7 to 2. Rochek struck out 11 in a strong start for Minersville and Milford defense received solid support from Tanner Easton and Crawford with Coleman at shortstop contributing a long hit.
Minersville patrons will witness a card of horse races next Saturday afternoon with a $100 purse for a matched race between the Mc Knight mare from Minersville and the Cook horse from Milford. The program includes several other races and a large crowd is expected.
Wm Morley foreman of the railroad shops presented Caliente with a new American flag for the high flag pole managed by the American Legion. He also donated a flag pole for the band stand opposite the Caliente Herald office funded by local business donations, Lincoln county aid, and American Legion Auxiliary events.
Ten year old Maynard Voorhees suffered a badly fractured arm in a Sunday fall from a horse. Dr Bybee set the arm which was broken in two places and the lad is getting along very well.
Mr and Mrs Clyde Tanner and Mrs William Morris returned Sunday from Salt Lake City where the couple were married in the temple on Wednesday September seventh. The bride formerly Miss Lola Morris. They will reside in Milford and are receiving many congratulations. A reception was held Monday evening with a merry gathering.
The Milford ball team is scheduled for a double header next Sunday. At 12 o clock noon they will meet the St. George team on the local diamond, then travel to Minersville to play that team. A good turnout is hoped for at the St. George game.
The Milford Senior 4-H girls hosted a mothers afternoon at Mrs. Rudolph Neilson’s home on September 7. Ellen Ford led the program with welcomes, a talk on 4-H, a piano solo by Ruth Pool, and a table service demonstration by Norma White and Pool. A luncheon followed with lace tablecloths and larkspur centerpieces. guests included Mrs. Kinney, Mrs. White, Mrs. Carlson, Mrs. Fotheringham, Mrs. Ford, Mrs. A. E. Smith, Mrs. McCully, Mrs. Coleman, Mrs. M. H. Pool, and Mrs. Neilson.
Mrs. Juanita Griffiths hosted a birthday party on September 4 for her son Walter Jr to celebrate his seventh birthday. Fourteen boys and girls attended and enjoyed games followed by a dainty lunch at 5 30. Pink and white sweet peas decorated the table with a pink and white birthday cake. A saying about sitting on a barbed wire fence ends the note.
The Tintie Lead, owners of Horn Silver mines, seeks bids to build a two mile power line from Frisco to the Buckhorn shaft. Buckhorn development has progressed for nearly a year with enough ore to justify power machinery. Winter work expected starting December 1. Feeds are higher this year than when butterfat was 40–50 cents per pound. good cows eat better with guidance from experience.
The Milford Post of American Legion held an election last Friday evening. Elected to serve include Val Yepsen as Commander, J M Hughes as First Vice Commander, Ted Kronholm as Second Vice Commander, E D Lyman as Adjutant, Sam Cline as Financial Officer, Leonard Bowman as Chaplain, Dan Davis as Sergeant at Arms, and Myron Lewis as Chairman of the executive committee.
Beaver county 4-H members held an outing at Murdock Academy with a Milford vs Beaver girls baseball game won 18 to 11 by Beaver. The event included a wigwam fire, songs, games and plans for county 4-H achievement day at Milford High School Saturday morning.
farm notes express gratitude for the Sept 3 Live-At-Home display in Minersville Beavor County. Attendees included well behaved youth performers and a valuable live stock show. The letter urges countywide cooperation to make the event an annual affair. It also offers dairy guidance on feeding water access pasture and supplemental feeds to boost production and emphasizes clean-up of burdock and cocklebur weeds.
