Miss Shirley Turnquist 21 of Ogden died after a Sunday auto accident on highway W nine miles north of Scipio. Accompanied by Miss Ruth Greenwell, both had planned teaching in Milford. Turnquist died seven hours after the crash from a fractured head and leg injuries. Greenwell survived with shock. funeral services held in Ogden. Surviving family include her mother and two brothers George and Fred Turnquist.
Utah State Agricultural College will open for the fall quarter of the 1940 41 college year with registration on Friday and Saturday September 27 28 announced by the president s office New and sophomore students will receive faculty adviser help during registration and major professors will be available for juniors and seniors Orientation meetings run 8 9 a m Friday for new students with an alphabetical schedule for the day The Saturday return registration period runs 7 a m to 2 p m for former students with talks and registration windows set accordingly
The Beaver County fair report shows strong racing and display results despite rain. Attendance was sufficient to break even as races were trimmed to seven with higher purses. Local exhibits moved downtown yet livestock stayed near the race track for efficient setup. Women’s division awards list many winners from Milford and nearby areas across crafts, sewing, and food contests.
Milford high and elementary schools opened Tuesday morning with 160 regular staff. 15 more students registered than all of last year. New shop instructor John Burgoyne from Kanab replaces Gene Hardy who joined Cedar City. Third and fourth graders took an extra week off after the line of duty death of teacher Shir ley Turnquist who died Sunday. Ruth Greenwell remains distressed.

Pontiac Motor Division this week announced a native Torpedo fleet for 1941. The line includes three Torpedo models with wheelbases of 119, 122 and the same, featuring six or eight cylinder engines, multiple colors, bodies and equipment. Radiators, hoods and fenders are restyled to match the Torpedo look while preserving the Silver Streak styling and chrome highlights throughout the car.
