Lincoln Mining company announces three carloads of ore shipped weekly with one car sent Tuesday and another due Thursday. Louis A. Millard county board plans a graded road from Della to the Beaver county line near Read with work well underway. Beaver county commissioners ordered a large grailer and expect drainage structures and gravel surfacing to complete the route between Milard and Beaver counties, providing a shorter, safer travel corridor as traffic grows.
Milford High School increases staff to ten and begins regular classes Monday September 16. New offerings include shop shorthand bookkeeping public speaking and debating with emphasis on physical education and music. Physics and chemistry added yearly for juniors and seniors. Athletics added to core schedule. classes run 11 15 am to 1 pm. New teachers include Principal E R Moody Bertha Mossberg science and math by Oliver Graff of Minersville.
Dr. W. E. Blackstock of the Colorado conference, successor to Dr. C. W. Hancher, will preach at the local church Sunday September 22 at 11 a.m. and 8 p.m. The public is invited to both services. Quarterly conference follows the evening service with attendance requested. Sunday school meets at 10 a.m. All members are asked to attend as plans for the coming year are outlined.
The South Milford Community club sponsored the annual Farmers Fall festival held Friday at the Community Club house. Exhibits included Future Farmers corn and produce displays, 4 H girls canning and baking, plus student crafts and kept keepsakes. Local children enjoyed races as candy hot dogs ice cream and pine added to the festive air.
Beaver county Boy Scout officials and all troop committeemen Scouters and others interested will meet in Minersville Monday September 16 at o'clock to perfect district organization for the coming year and handle related matters A A Anderson executive of the Timpamoros council is expected to outline duties of district and troop officers with a melonist to conclude the affair following a district committee meeting in Milford last Thursday attended by S Taylor Farnsworth David S Williams Clyde Messinger Ss Wittwer Albert on secretary treasurer W W Farrer and C K Jameson. Fathers and others interested in Scouting are urged to be present.
Mr. Smith representing the Townsend old age pension movement spoke to enthusiastic crowds on Main Street Saturday evening and again in the Firemen's hall Tuesday evening. He is believed to be from Virginia, a former Methodist minister, and a notably effective speaker who cleared up misunderstandings about the proposal and made supporters for the cause.
J Weldon Wilson of Las Vegas with Ed Wagoner and Arthur Jones secured a 90 day option on the OK mine near Milford in Beaver Lake district. George Meyers former Nada resident and ex foreman at Los Angeles and Salt Lake railroad shops Milford reportedly suffered a serious work accident as a mechanic at the Arrowhead hotel in San Bernardino. He is said to have lost a leg in the incident and sustained a hand injury that may cost the limb.
Funeral services for Mrs. Fred Schumacher of Garrison were held at Milford Methodist church with Rev. Jesse Hall officiating. She died after gallbladder surgery and an earlier emergency operation. Interment followed in Fillmore beside a sister. She was born April 16, 1877 in Fillmore and leaves a husband two daughters her mother two sisters seven grandchildren.
A Sunday afternoon fire gutted two frame sheds near Seventh Avenue on South Stoddard Street. Melquiades Porpa, a Union Pacific station grounds keeper, lost a 1981 Willys sedan, stored in one shed, with doors locked delaying entry. Fire officials suspect canard by bars and matches as the cause. no insurance on Porpa’s car.
Mr and Mrs A Metuiley announce the engagement of daughter Olive to Donald Young of Provo. The marriage is planned for October 4.
Milford outhits CCCs 19 to 12 in a Sunday baseball game as CCCs start slow then rally. key players include Crawford Easton and Tanner for Milford and Anderson Chesley for CCCs. The box score shows Milford 19, CCCs 12 with multiple hits and errors. The teams set for a rematch at Milford on September 15 at 2:20 PM.
Mrs Willard Nichols underwent a major operation in Salt Lake City last week. Dr RB Shannon entered Salt Lake Wednesday night and returned the following afternoon.
The University of Montana football squad, about 40 people including coaches and trainers, will arrive in Milford on No. 21 the morning of Thursday, September 26, en route to Southern California. They plan a workout at the Union Pacific ball park and showers at the high school, offering locals a chance to see varsity players up close.
W R Chapline of Washington DC and District 4 forest service officials toured the Davis county erosion control works and the Desert branch experiment station west of Milford. They reported about 50 000 acres fenced and pastures developed for range restoration grazing capacity and mineral deficiences studies with Utah State Agricultural College cooperation.
Mrs. Arthur Dickes. 36, formerly Wroria Forie of Milford, died of cancer Sunday in Los Angeles after a long illness and was buried there. Surviving sisters Mrs. H T Hanks and Mrs. G T Pitagerald of Milford were at her bedside, along with H T Hanks, a local hotel man.
Town officials in Salt Lake with O. F. Hubbell president of the town board, Trustees George Litchfield and Willard Nichole, and L. A. Wynaught of the Lions club review road work and a proposed civic center for Mil ford, but final plans are not set.
