Resin from Utah coal dust fuels new varnish industry
Utah chemist Adrian Nagelvoort has developed a resin reclaiming process using resin-bearing coal dust from Deer Creek near Huntington Canyon and Price. The plant processes 20 tons daily, yielding one ton of amber resin suitable for fine varnish, with wax and asphalt removed by water techniques. The Utah Publicity and Industrial department backs the effort, foreseeing waste coal byproducts becoming bricks and broader industrial growth.

Milford Honors Returning Armed Forces Volunteers
Two of Milford's first volunteers for the armed forces are home this week. Master Sergeant Garton W. Murdock, in civilian dress after five years in the army air forces, served largely on Pacific islands as inspector general for ground force unity. Sergeant Clifton B. Jamey is on convalescent leave from a Denver hospital for spinal and other conditions. Lieutenant and Mrs. David K. Lewis visited Milford on their way from Tucson toward Salt Lake City as Dave seeks separation from the army air corps. Robert Blaine Roberts, gunner's mate third class aboard the U S S Boise, left to rejoin his ship after a birthday visit with Milford and Minersville relatives. he has nearly four years in Navy service and seven bronze stars from fourteen invasions.
