Federal Court Limits Utah Power Rate Cut Order

A three judge federal court rejected the Utah public utilities commission ten percent rate reduction for Telluride Power. It held that enforcing the cut could confiscate the utility’s property under the fourteenth amendment. Chief judges Lewis Bratton and Tilman Johnson ruled after hearing the case on June 14.

Cedar City Junior League Beats Milford in High-Scoring Game

Cedar City defeats Milford 18 to 14 in a Sunday junior league matchup setting records for runs hits and errors. Milford pitchers Hutchins and Coleman allowed nine hits and twenty errors marred the effort while Cedar’s Clark held strong until late in the game before Milford capitalized for eight runs in the eighth and ninth innings.

Milford Schools Open With New Roles and Cleaned Buildings

Milford schools begin Monday September 17 with unchanged faculties except for three changes. Registration for junior and senior high students started this week. Wallace Osborne joins the high school staff as coach and physical education director and seventh grade advisor. Mel Heslington shifts to junior high subjects, librarian and sophomore advisor. Other high school faculty include Paul E. Beecher principal, Alvin H. Baler, Zola Fernley, Mel Heslington, and J. M. Hughes.

King and Murdock Re nominated At Democratic Conventions

Veteran United States senator William H. King was renominated for a six year term at the Utah Democratic state convention in Provo on the first ballot with 445 votes. Ada Murdock of Beaver was renominated by acclamation for the first Utah district. J Will Robinson and others were also renominated in various races as party factions clash over procedural rules.

Diesel Engine Beats a New Record for Union Pacific Train

The Union Pacific introduces a V-type diesel engine for its second streamline passenger train. The engine delivers 900 horsepower from 12 cylinders and weighs 15,000 pounds, with total power car weight at 29,700 pounds. The six car train serves the Chicago to Pacific coast route, joining two other nine car streamliners with 1200 horse power engines slated for winter completion.

Minersville Race Program Declared A Great Success

Two day event in Minersville drew strong crowds with close, exciting races. Winners included Pioneer from Kanosh and Bright Eyes from Goldie Marshall in the 3/8 mile, Utah Lady and Diamond in the 1/2 mile, and Davie in the 4/8 mile, with detailed results for each heat across both days.

Grand Old Man of Mining Visits Milford on Business

W. H. Child of Salt Lake City brokerage firms travels to Milford with his wife and Mrs. George Guillotte to visit L. N. Morrison, famed mining figure aged 81, who is recovering from a heart attack at Milford hospital. The King David mine west of Frisco shows steady drift progress at 1350 feet depth with two shifts and about 200 feet monthly. University of Utah and University of Arizona graduates work on the project, including Allen Reiser, Otto Bolles, and George O. Relfer.
