Minersville flood relief and local recreation notes

After last week's cloudbursts in the Minersville area caused minor community damage, one irrigation canal was washed out to about 20 feet. The Boy Scouts restored Rock Corral in the Mineral Mountains as a picnic area and Beaver County tourism potential. Wes Bolton drew jokes about fast drying seaboat oil on newly paved streets, which has since set and been stabilized with dry sand. A community dance is planned for Saturday night September 3 at 9 pm in the American Legion pavilion, with Jake Schow's orchestra. admission 50 cents per couple and 25 cents for extra ladies.

Milford residents applaud the featured dances as young attendees urge their elders to join in. Congratulations are extended to Dick and his committee for organizing the event and fostering community participation.

South Milford Fair Promises Cash Prizes And Ribbons

The South Milford Fair on Saturday September 3 features cash prizes blue red and white ribbons teenage piepar ing contest and exhibits in crops cattle garden produce canning bakery clothing fancy work novelties and heirlooms with judging under Gael Elmer and McCay Williams. Mrs Cassie McKnight chairs the event and H L Tolley publicity and finance lead a long list of volunteers. Exhibits must be at the clubhouse by 10 am with display from noon to 7 pm lunch served at noon and prize drawings for livestock and blue ribbon entries.

Parents urged to teach children safety habits

Dr. Joseph P. Kesler, acting state health rector, urged parents to instill safety habits as school opens. He stressed child safety rests with homes and parental guidance. The Public Health Department backs the Back to School safety program as part of the Child Safety Crusade, urging routes to school, proper behavior, and supervision.

School Bells Ring Tuesday Beav er County Reopens

School days begin in Beaver County with elementary students reporting Tuesday Sept 6 and high school students registering Friday and Saturday this week. Registration times by last name are A-H 9am F-P 10am Q-Z 1pm. Classes start Tuesday in rooms 2B 1B 4B 4C 2C 1¢, with a senior meeting at 9am Friday. Bell Family Man Named Principal Bell

Calvert C. Bell, son of Monroe mayor, is married to Venice Brown and has five children. A World War II serviceman, he earned a BSA degree in 1940 and taught five years at Elsinore Elementary. He later did graduate work at BYU and served as district coordinator for Sevier County PAT and Lions Club leader.

The Utah Department of Fish and Gone Waters plans restocking Panguiteh Lake with rainbow trout starting around September 15 after mid‑August chemical treatment to clear trash fish and allow a full recovery. Reading Plan Aims to Speed Student Progress at Milford Adventist

Milford Seventh-day Adventist Elementary School announces a September 6 opening with a revamped reading program. The plan splits the first three years into 12 levels, letting fast readers advance and slower students receive more help. Upon completing level 12, students are ready for fourth grade. Utah mourning dove season opens September 1 in Beaver County

The Utah mourning dove season runs September 1 through September 15 across several counties including Beaver. Field studies indicate average or greater dove numbers this year. Regulations require hunting from sunrise to sunset with bow or shotgun, limit 10 birds, and no shooting from roads or vehicles. Juveniles may hunt with supervision. adults must buy a game bird license.

Archers Plan Two Day Deer Hunt Start Next Saturday

Utah archers begin the 1105 statewide special permit deer hunt next Saturday September 25. The two day bow shoot opens to qualified bow and arrow enthusiasts across Beaver County with few exceptions.

Milford Labor Day Celebration Features Horse Races and Dance

Milford hosts the third annual Valley 4-H meet on Labor Day with seven Beaver County horse races for Beaver County owners and riders. Events include an all-girl race, saddle horse rises, a Jaycee softball game, and a Jaycee Dance at night. Milford Story Hour Ends This Summer at Legion Hall

The Milford Story Hour will be conducted for the last time this summer on Monday September 5 at the American Legion Hall Arion. All parents of Story Hour children are invited to attend this final session with stories songs and the rhythm band. Attendance averaged 45 youngsters this summer and thanks are offered to supporters including Mr Tel Meslok Basten the American Legion and Dr Davie for use of the hall and to Mrs Walter McCulley and Susan McCulley for help along with Mr Bond and Mrs Bill Trib for stories.

Scouts Enjoy Encampment at Maple Dell

Milford Boy Scout Troop 324 spent Aug 15 20 at Camp Maple Dell in Payson Canyon. The camp, among the nation’s finest, offers leadership training and merit badges as Scouts engage in boating canoeing forestry and nature studies under professional Scouters and volunteers. Ray Whiting was chosen to represent Troop 324 with Deward Nay named by the Scoutmasters. The troop earned the Wab-Kara Arrow for the week and topped the marksmanship contest with Sherman and Blaine Nichols placing first and second. Over 140 Scouts participated with many Milford boys listed by name.

Holiday On Ice Brings Global Skaters to Utah Coliseum

The Holiday On Ice show arrives at the Salt Lake City Coliseum from September 16 to 25 with 125 skaters speaking nine languages and representing 11 countries. United States performers discuss home states, while teammates hail from Canada and nations including India, Switzerland, England, Italy, Portugal, Sweden, and more.
