A ruminator proposes broad reprieve while keeping goals near the surface, scattering a few bouquets as objectives stay above ground, and firing a hotshot occasionally to enjoy the sparks in New York.
The Princess Elizabeth speech delivered October 9 is recounted in full from a New York transcription. The 14 year old royal speaks to children away from home, sending sympathy to families overseas and gratitude to those hosting them in allied countries. The message emphasizes cheerfulness, courage, and support for the war effort and ends with unfinished lines about continuing the appeal.
Beaver County swung toward Republicans in county offices with Clif McShane, Ernest G. Joseph, and George C. Miller winning seats by solid margins, while the two year county commissioner post went to Truman Bradfield by six votes. Roosevelt’s presidential majority shrank to 202, and Abe Murdock led the state for U S senate. The double liability amendment passed 619 to 165 in Beaver and across Utah. Three Milford High School speech and debate alumni gain recognition at colleges. Madge Moody, 1938 graduate, participates in Brigham Young University theatre season. John Clay, 1937 graduate, to represent Utah State Agricultural College at the Rocky Mountain Forensic league in Bozeman. Bud Williams, another 1938 grad, named as an alternate at USAC, after debate activity at Cedar City.
Milford Lions decide to skip this week’s regular meeting for election day dinner at the Methodist church. They announce weekly meetings at 6 30 pm, raise dues to 4 dollars monthly, and appoint a survey committee to refine the plan. They plan to attend Armistice day events and urge local businesses to close for one hour during the program.
Thompson downed a goose last Friday at Rocky Ford dam and found it banded in 1936 by the Biological Survey. He plans to report the number to Washington and to learn where the bird was banded and its age at that time.
On Election Day November 5 Milford hosts a public concert on Main Street by the Milford band supervised by Mr. Clark with evident progress and school cooperation. Senior Marie Mantros shows strong interest in solos and helps manage daily absentee lists. a national three act comedy by a renowned troupe is planned for November 19 with tickets at 1.00. The Agricultural department led by Jean Pugal is noted.
Statewide effort by Utah lawyers and county agricultural agents to aid registrants in completing selective service questionnaires at no cost. Beavers county agent Hymn Steffen and attorneys at Beaver Milford Mil Fund will provide guidance so registrants fill forms themselves. Call Steffen or listed attorneys for help when needed.
