In the past week Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Wright welcomed a baby boy and Mr. and Mrs. Austin Willits welcomed a baby girl. Miss Eatherwood of Minersville visits Mrs. Floyd Wright. Karl Murdock returns from Big Springs Nevada. plans Salt Lake City trip. Halloween party at the Chub house draws about 60 attendees with games fortunes dancing and refreshments. Roldon Turner and Delbert Schow depart for Manti to hunt elk.
After a three month summer break the Pierian Club met again at Mrs. W A McQuilleys home last Monday evening. Members discussed Readots Digest articles and other magazines while hostess served refreshments to a list of attendees including Mrs Vena Wilson Mrs Tina Sedgwick and Olympia Washington former member Irene D Doble. Walter E. Martin was reelected president of the Milford town board of trustees in the regular biennial municipal election. On the Progressive ticket, W. B. Gardeney, Theodore Kronholm, and L. B. Wadlingham were reelected as trustees, with M. H. Pool as a new member. Opposition consisted of sparse write-ins with no single candidate exceeding two votes, while Beaver elected Republican slates for mayor and council.
J C Smith Milford chairman announces nationwide Red Cross first aid training grew over 60 percent in the past year with more than 378000 people trained. He cites Britain’s volunteer corps as a model and urges wider membership for the 1941 Roll Call to expand civilian and industrial readiness and reduce accident deaths.
Mr and Mrs W E Martin return from a vacation trip visiting Zam Tuik Chiapa and California. The record notes involvement with national guard units and allied teams.
The Silver Desert camp of D U P elected new officers at its Tuesday meeting held at Daughter Steenbock’s home. Officers include Captain Wanda Helm and 1st vice captain Edna Baker with several other posts filled. Edith Osborn delivered the lesson. Refreshments followed for local members and visiting Arizona Daughter Smith. The next meeting is set for December 3 at Mary Johnson’s home with a rug bee planned.
Armistice day will be observed Tuesday November 12 with a 4 band parade at 10 30 a m and a patriotic program at 11 a m at the high school. The Auxiliary sponsored annual oratorical contest will award medals to successful contestants.
Mr and Mrs J Smith went to Delta Wednesday to attend the funeral of John Parry a brother in law of Mrs Smith who died Sunday at Delta where he had made his home for some time since moving from Cedar City
A long-awaited plan to oil and grade the trackside approach to the town station is finally underway. Union Pacific agreed to restore access between the tracks and rear business sidewalks, ending dangerous slips in bad weather. The project arose after W. E. Martin urged action, leading to a cooperative deal and new No Trespass guidance for the public.
Attend funeral services for T. J Theo Freherine tam in Salt Tako City. Attendees include Mrs Laverne Patterson, Mr and Mrs Ross Patterson, Mr and Mrs Clyde Griffiths, and Adam Patterson of Milford. The notice notes his death on October 20 after a hospital stay following injuries from a train yard switch incident.

A new fire engine arrived this week after a lengthy delay marked by tests and local approvals. The Milford Volunteer Fire Department will use the engine to boost community safety and prevent delays, reflecting its long standing reputation as a leading fire service in the state.
One of the largest Milford funerals ever held mourned A C Skelly Johansen killed by accidental rifle discharge while deer hunting October 26 in the mountains northeast of town. Services were at LD S chapel with burial in Milford Cemetery. survivors include widow five children and multiple relatives.
Mrs Mattie Ferguson formerly of Milford spent a weekend visiting local friends. She runs a small apartment house on the outskirts of a busy metropolis. Her son Warren, now a U P fireman based in Los Angeles, has a new baby son and is doing well. The family keeps in touch with old friends through The News.

The Senate foreign relations committee backs repeal of three sections of the neutrality act, while Treasury Secretary Morgenthau warns of steep federal income taxes next year. He plans to distribute pamphlets via banks to explain tax scales and urges saving now, suggesting using treasury notes to pay taxes. The piece notes anticipated political and fiscal shocks.
