Mrs Nina Burger local manager Mountain States Telephone and Telegraph says over 53000 people in seven states plus 60 in Milford await service. Demand will rise after the war ends but limited manpower and materials delay production. reconversion to civilian plant will take months as phones and central office equipment are installed.
Four explorers report a natural bridge in southeastern Utah’s Escalante River side canyon. Estimated about 100 feet wide and 125 feet high with central thickness near 480 feet, the bridge appears enlarged by canyon erosion. The party, including Mopyee Monro, Harry Aleson, Ed A. Hullson, and son, traveled from Lees Ferry Arizona up the Escalante to photograph the site and returned the same route.
Two Milford residents died when their boat capsized at Minersville Reservoir on Sunday May 29. Mary Jane Kesler Edwards, 20, heroically retrieved her sister Maxine Kesler Fillmore, 27, and steered to shore with a .22 rifle while Merlin Hansen, 31, remained missing. Authorities continue to search using grappling gear. Hansen’s body has not yet been recovered.
Preliminary surveys show Union Pacific employees will grow more and better Victory gardens in 1945. Walter Wilson notes 21 520 workers have gardens on 3 100 acres, with 27 000 gardens on 2 500 acres in 1944. Last year two million dollars of food produced. this year expected around 24 4 million in value. Major community project lies in Fairfax district Kansas City Kansas with 1500 gardens on 125 acres.
Evelyn Roberts aged ten, daughter of Mr and Mrs Prank Roberts, lost her life when swept into the reservoir as flood waters carried a car into a cove on the east side above the dam along highway 21. The body was recovered August 5 after seven days of search using available equipment.
The Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary sponsors a drive to gather old toothbrushes. Veterans in hospitals will use the handles to craft novelties sold to raise funds. Bring brushes to boxes in Murrock Jefferson Penny Altman and Corner Drug stores.
Donald C. Holbrook, fireman second class, receives an honorable medical discharge after a cable line accident that cost three fingers on his right hand and he plans to return to Milford. Don Bird and family visit from Hawthorne, California. Coast Guard SPAR Anna Rotarty Koch reports to Ketchikan Alaska for duty. Wallace Mastros, radio man second class, returns home after two years away, noting his ship survived but did not take part in Iwo Jima or Okinawa. Mastros, Milford High graduate and former student body president, adds local ties to the wartime record.
In California Mr and Mrs Walter L Garston and their three young daughters left Sunday for an estimated two week trip to visit Mr Carlton s parents Mr and Mrs Karl S Carlton in Gardena California.
South Milford residents and sportsmen gathered Monday at the South Milford Community clubhouse for the annual Milford Wildlife Protective Association social. Minersville guests attended. the event supported pheasant protection, with a $25 donation to the Mineraville L.D.S. Ward building fund and mention of a $6000 church building fund ongoing.

The Beavers The drucge students in their first year of bookkeeping competed with 10 000 students across the United States Canada Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands. Awards were based on accuracy neatness and following instructions with 100 prizes awarded.
Young men born in October 1927 who passed the April 12 ASTRP qualifying test are urged by Captain Arthur G Mollart Utah district recruiting officer to complete enlistment by June 20 1945 to qualify for the Army Specialized Training Reserve program They should contact the nearest Army recreation station by June 11 for enrollment in the July term November 1927 births may enlist before June 20 for the July term or before July 20 for August They must be at least 17 years old and enlist by the 20th of the month they reach 17 years and 9 months of age Qualified graduates may join the Army Vocational Training program covering English math chemistry physics geography history and military training The War Department will provide transportation tuition books instructional materials uniforms medical care food and quarters Enrolled students receive four terms of village training with a two week vacation between terms and a two week furlough They are not active duty but receive reserve service acknowledging the college quarter progression.
