Washington May 29 Special Memorial Day ceremonies were held to honor war nurses from the Spanish American War through World War II. Arthur H Johnson national chairman urged tribute to valiant women who faced dangers on the battlefield. The Nurses National Memorial seeks 2 million for a nurses home in Washington. Pennsylvania tops the roll with 32 nurses lost, followed by New York 24 and Massachusetts 19.
On May 23 Mrs Buri’e First grade hosted a Pioneer themed program with talks and pictures followed by songs and dances. On May 22 Mrs Griffiths Sixth grade hiked to Five Sure Dam with a long distance. On May 27 Sixth grade students attended a general ward assembly at the high school.
The Beaver Legion announces a townwide event today featuring a veer celebration with sports and dances. Activities include baseball games between Beaver and Scripis, a parade, and a winning contest judged during the festivities with local officials and patrons attending.
The county weed spraying equipment is now in operation and available for farm and municipal use, announced by County Agent Glenn Baird. Ralph Fordham of Greenville is hired as weed supervisor, with rules requiring farmers to pay material costs while equipment and labor are provided at no charge. materials must be paid when the job is finished. Entries for the Intermountain Junior Fat Stock Show at North Salt Lake on June 24 have broken all records. Raymond C. Wilson, resident, announced the milestone.

Beaver County home arts exhibit to open in Salt Lake City June 2 as part of a four season, 15 week series. Districts Millard, Beaver, Tran, Washington, Kane, Garfield and others will host the first show with three week runs and a final showcase of prize winners.
Mrs. Berger announces two new telephony operators Jerry Lysvan and Marie Wren. Training to complete about the first of the month. Flight Inspector Harris from Salt Lake City won Milford student flight exams. Milford hosts twenty active light students with no failures to date. R D Whitney of the CAA Regional Office Los Angeles arrived for a two day communication inspection. Six planes from Salt Lake City Flight School stopped at Milford during a cross country morning. Students progress to soloing after navigation weather air regulations and dual cross country flight, then solo cross country.
Denver Brandon, a Tel operator from Kanalmo, states Twentieth Century Fox will push for a new feature in Kanab on June 20. The project titled The Green Hills of Wyoming aims to be a standout epic movie with Fox representatives directing.
Seniors at Milford High marked their final activities on May 28 with commencement exercises and a graduation scene. Class members express mixed emotions about leaving school, credit teachers and friends, and plan plans for summer work or college.
Parents honor the senior class with a May 26 dinner prepared by multiple hostesses. Faculty and notable guests attended while Roy Kesler led a program including Shakespeare readings and a Life ditty. Arnold Swindlehurst presented farewell gifts to Mr and Mrs Farrer and decorations featured spring greenery.
Minersville American Legion Post 51 installed its officers for the coming year at a special meeting on Wednesday May 21. State Department Commander Kingsley Clawson installed officers assisted by State Adjutant Art Horsley. Also present were National Committeeman Harry Hickman and Stay Contact Officer Sy Thompson.
Milford civic and service groups gain first chance to sign up for concessions at the June Race Meet after a committee meeting. Sellers set minimum fees. acceptance deadline June 6. Queen contest named with candidates aged 17 to 24 from Milford Valley area. voting ends June 24, winner announced June 28 at Centennial Celebration. Western outfits and hats awarded to queen and runners up as attendants.
Marion Mighes of Milford was named Commander at District Seven, Department of Utah, American Legion, at the district convention in Parowan. He succeeds Amos C. Hatch of Parowan. Mrs. Ethel Nielsen elected Ladies Auxiliary vice-president. Dudley Gillis named vice-commander.
Calendar of events across Utah features theatre, livestock shows, gun club trapshoots, regattas, and expositions. Highlights include Macbeth at Kingsbury, a statewide Centennial Exposition in Salt Lake City, Blossom Time in Brigham City, and the Intermountain Junior Stock Show in North Salt Lake.
Grant Wood led Minersville Junior High commencement exercises urging graduates to continue gathering knowledge after leaving school. Kay Banks and eight others were named among the graduates, while the community bonds and town beautification efforts, including new church square posts, were highlighted amid local visits and events.
