Milford boxing card draws large town crowd at arena

A May 31 boxing program at Milford’s new Volunteer Fire department arena drew a large crowd and featured a lively wrestling match. Matches included Bill Dawson versus Clark Gilling, a seven-kid battle royal, and several close boxing showdowns with plans for future Friday cards throughout the summer.

Scout Court of Honor cooperates on Milford benefit claim

A. R. Schluter and C. M. White of the United Family Benefit society of Salt Lake City visited Milford to settle Frances Wood of Minersville's claim. The display act allowed the first qualification under new legislation with no major plan changes. E. H. Bird is the local representative.

Evangelist Norman Eckman opened Bible Chautauqua lectures at the Firemen's hall with a study of Daniel II claiming four world empires and a coming kingdom. He argued Hitler and Mussolini cannot unify Europe and urged why modern prophecy points to a final divine kingdom. The public is invited to Sunday night’s talk on Hell.

Wedding Reception for Miss Nola Hess and Joe Barton

Haskell on Tuesday May 14 the Greenville wedding joined Miss Nola Hess daughter of Henry Hess to Joe Barton in a 5 p.m. ceremony followed by family and close friend reception and a schoolhouse dance. A shower hosted by the bridegroom's mother and sisters the next day yielded many gifts as friends offered best wishes.

Final date set for seed certification applications

June 1 is the final date to file seed certification applications with the State Department of Agriculture in Salt Lake City or with the District Agricultural Inspector J E Blazgard in Cedar City. A certification fee must accompany each application to be recorded, enabling inspectors to start field inspections by July 1. The ruling applies to alfalfa seed grain and potato certifications as well.

Wheat Referendum Set for May 25 Voting

All U.S. farmers may vote on May 25 to continue or end the wheat reduction contract. Beaver county residents can obtain ballots from the county agent. Eligible voters include those farming wheat since 1929. Ballots must be returned by May 26 for official counting in Fillmore on May 27.
