Milford Volunteer Fire department sponsors the Days of 49 celebration on Friday May 29 with a 16 hour program. A six week summer vocational home economics program for Milford girls offers instruction in interior decoration child care and related fields. Milford standout Ted Weber won the grueling mile at the state high school meet in Salt Lake City last Saturday, contributing five points to Milford’s team total. Teammate Douglas Ryan finished fifth in the 220 yard dash, while Weber’s coach Floyd Rotter notes his promise for a great two mile in college after earning a Union Pacific scholarship to the US A.C. in Logan. The Salt Lake Tribune praised Weber as a curly headed sprinter who surprised the experts by beating the field.
Kent’s lake in the lower Beaver mountains will open to fishing this Sunday May 18, nearly a month ahead of the regular season. Access is doubtful for most, with snowbanks blocking the road above the Beaver canyon junction and part of the canyon road washed out by high Beaver River water running as high as 740 second feet.
In Sundays Tribume Las Vegas granted marriage licenses including Harry Russey of Milford and Audrey Ploza Bradfield of Long Beach California formerly Milford.
Milford high school band earns invitation to the annual Pioneer Day parade in Salt Lake City. Harry Clark, band director, notified of the invitation to perform July 22 to 26 with Salt Lake officials helping with transport costs. The event draws 150,000 to 200,000 spectators over the years. Sidelights include theatre discounts and free beach access.
Charles H. Segerstrom of Sonora California, a mining man and capitalist, spent the fore part of the week by Milford, assessing progress on the Old Hickory shaft. Promising scheelite ore shows were found on the property months ago. Segerstrom represents interests with a 4 22 month lease on the major part of the property, including the shaft. Delays in material delivery, notably conveyor belting, have postponed planned heavy production.
