GSA Officers Welcome Milford Visitor During Sego Lily Meeting

Mrs A J Hanna of San Bernardino California made an official visit to Sego Lily Division No 600 GSA on May 4. The event began at 10 am with President Florence Barnes in the chair. A luncheon at Mrs J P Holm’s home followed with twenty members present. New initiates were Mrs Fay Bradfield and Mrs Lee. An evening banquet was hosted by L D S Relief Society women. Carnations were given to Mrs Hanna and thanks expressed by division members. Thirty four attended. Prizes at Monte Carlo whist went to Mr Holm Mr Garfield Mr White Mrs Connell and Mrs Barnes.

Milford Athletic Club Sets Membership Rules and Hours

The Milford Athletic Club offers membership cards via committeemen and Penney's store with a May 15, 1944 deadline. From that date, members must show a card to play tennis. under 16 must play 10:00 am to 3:00 pm, over 16 may play anytime with preference to under 16 during shore hours. Junior and senior fees differ. Tournaments occur with brackets completed within three days. unplayed brackets result in both players being dropped. Milford Officer Missing In Action Over Hungary

Milford high school alumnus Thorpe Waddingham, a Second Lieutenant and B-24 Liberator pilot with the Fifteenth Air Force, is reported missing in action after a mission over Hungary on April 18. Family and community await official word as Allied forces suffered losses in the Budapest area air campaign.

Caravan of national figures to visit Milford on May 17

A statewide tour featuring leading amusement figures will stop in Milford on May 17 at 2 30 p m as part of a 26 day drive through 46 communities. Sponsored by the Utah Council of Defense the caravan promotes enlistment of women into WACS WAVES SPARS and Marines to free men for service. Editor's Son Wounded In Action Over France

Mr and Mrs David Williams learn their son Lieutenant David Williams Jr was seriously wounded in France on April 20 while serving as a navigator on a Flying Fortress with the Eighth Air Force. He had kept them informed of his progress and expects to be back in action by late May after a weeklong hospital stay. Grandmother Hickman Dies after Bedridden Illness

Mrs. Margaret Kirk Hickman 81 known as Grandma Hickman died Monday noon after more than a month bedridden. A Scotland native who came to this country 80 years ago she lived in Milford 59 years and earned a reputation for kindness thrift and good citizenship. She was mother of 11 children with many grandchildren and great grandchildren. Funeral services are held Friday afternoon and burial will be in Milford cemetery beside her husband who died 14 or 15 years ago. An obituary and full funeral details will appear next week.

Miner John D. Stanley Dies Sudden at Local Hospital

John D. Stanley aged 30, an experienced miner, died suddenly Tuesday noon at the local hospital after being moved from Gadberry apartments. Mrs. Stanley, his wife, worked in the local freight offices. The body was handled by Southern Utah mortuary and shipped to Cedar City, then to Butte, Montana for interment. A half-brother there is reported. Stanley was known as a capable non-ferrous miner, recently employed at the Harrington Hickory mine under a James D. Williams operated by a federal grant of funds.

Greenville Lieutenant Killed In Plane Crash

Second Lieutenant J. Byron Blackner 25 son of Greenville parents died Wednesday in a plane crash east of El Paso Texas. Four other occupants were said killed in the accident during a routine training flight from Hobbs New Mexico. A Beaver High School and Cedar City BA holder he served in the Utah and national guard before joining the air corps. Survived by wife Astor and daughter Linda Lee, several siblings and his parents.

Graduation Exercises at Brigham Young Provo and Milford High
