Milford Fire Laddies Dance to Benefit Volunteers

Milford residents rally Friday for the annual Fire Laddies dance, a key fundraiser for local volunteer safety crews. Man Walker Home Destroyed by Fire in Milford

Fire gutted the Theman Walker residence in South Milford last Sunday afternoon, possibly caused by faulty wiring in the attic. The home, insured for structure but lacking contents, left three children safe but with no household goods. Neighbors rallied to help, a community house-raising is planned, and local clubs fund-raise with showers for kitchen items.

Cancer Drive Tops Quota in Beaver County Campaign

West Beaver County exceeded its goal in the annual cancer fund drive announced by local chairman Mary McCulley. Milford, Minersville and South Milford raised 441.36 with South Milford achieving near full participation. Minersville donations reached 73.17 under directors Emily Gilling and Aletha Gillins, with many volunteers listed and heartfelt thanks from city chairmen to all residents and workers.

Minersville Stock Show Date Moved to May 23

Beaver County Livestock Show at Minersville postponed to Monday May 23 due to conflicts with other events. Prizes include Mary fine prizes for exhibitors, premium money for juniors, and numerous awards from local businesses and groups. Milford Lions Club backs event with trophy. donors include Sam Cline, TriState Lumber Co, Jefferson Mercantile Co, Horn Silver Hotel, Minersville Feed & Supply, Anderson Dalry of Las Vegas, Artificial Breeding Association, and Minersville Livestock Association offering trophies for top show steer, best dairy cow, best artificially bred heifer, and best range bull.

Milford Elementary PTA Names 1955 Officers

Mrs. Faye Thompson was selected as president for 1955 50 at Milford Elementary PTA meeting. Mrs. Gladys Whittaker was elected vice president and Mrs. Athena Roberts secretary. After installing officers, the group adjourned to May 9 when County Superintendent D R Pearce will discuss what the schools can expect for next year. The talk was scheduled for last Monday but dates were mixed.

Milford High Track Seeks Delta Meet Victory

Milford High track squad is expected to push district rivals at Delta on Friday May 6. Coach Lee Pettey says depth could let Milford win the meet and qualify many event winners for the state meet. Boyd T White a Milford High junior assists by handling janitorial and security duties at the Milford AT&T office. Born in Milford in 1847, he is a B student active in school life including class president and Lettermen's Club. He plans Desplanas east coast college after graduation and shows strong sports involvement in basketball and football.

Model U N Trip to Utah Hears UN Insights

Patricia Wilcock recounts a Utah model United Nations trip with Monty Ashworth, Russell Sly, Earl Stonehocker, Betty Ferguson and advisor Jesse Long. They met Mr McKell of the State Mental Hospital, toured facilities, and learned about elder infirmaries. BYU campus tours and University of Utah sessions followed with keynote Dr Richard Poll and student hosts. Seniors Enjoy Vegas Sluff Day Travel by Car Convoy

A six car convoy carried 27 seniors, an advisor, and parents to Las Vegas for Senior Sluff Day on April 22. Stops included Nellis Air Force Base for a base tour and lecture on the mission of the air force, Boulder Dam with an elevator tour to see generators, Last Frontier Village and bumper cars, El Rancho Vegas show with Lillian Roth and Joe B Lewis, then a Sahara smorgasbord before returning via Twin Lakes Resort.
