Educators' Survey Commission Reports on Beaver County Schools

The Educators' Survey Commission gave an informal report to the Beaver County Board of Education after surveying five school plants. Recommendations target improved operations across the district. Members included Dr. Cliff Moffett Elmer Hartvigsen and Dr. Paul Fawley with local principals invited to the session.

Polio Vaccine Now Available at Beaver County Clinic

Max Mecham, March of Dimes chairman, announced polio vaccine is available at the Beaver County Clinic under Civil Defense. It will be administered each Monday evening, urging parents of children up to 9 years old to immunize before the pollo season begins.

Little League Sets Election of Officers

The Little League plans an election of officers to direct league activities. Baseball players will meet at 7 30 next Wednesday evening May 9 at the Ben Briscoe residence. Interested persons should attend.

Mill Levy OK'd by 5 to 1 in Beaver County

Beaver County voters approved a special mill levy for school operation and maintenance by 5 to 1. Milford and South Milford posts led with 437 yes to 40 no, Minersville 100 to 23, WC Beaver districts 282 to 91, county total 819 to 0 or near 0. The levy allows up to about 5 mills, with officials predicting about 3.5 mills to fund more teachers and supplies. The Beaver County Committee for Better Schools organized the campaign. Leah Foerster chaired Milford, with key leaders from Milford Minersville and Beaver communities.

Jaycee-Ettes Set Rummage Sale Date

Milford group invites shoppers to a White Elephant rummage sale with items from parakeets to pantaloons. The sale runs Thursday and Friday next week at the La Tienda Building on Main Street from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Racing Mayors to Highlight Forty-Niners at Milford Event

Three Beaver County mayors accept Milford American Legion invitation to race for the World Champion Racing Mayor title during the 49er celebration on May 25 and 26. The event includes six races daily with Gym-Khana between. Judges include J Bracken Lee Dan Valsine and Ted Cannon. Governor Lee to present trophy. mayoral race distance is a 1 1/4 miles and involves Utah residents' mounts.

Milford High School selects five honor students for the class of 1956 led by Principal Rosslyn Eppich. Jennie Sue Smith Sandra Davis Jesse Alice Cook Sharen Kesler Randall Morris will speak at the commencement program scheduled for 8 p.m. Friday May 18.

Pioneer Garb to Mark Fortyniners Legion Meet

The American Legion event on Friday and Saturday May 25 and 26 will feature pioneer costumes as the dress code with prizes for the best outfits. Those unable to obtain pioneer attire should wear Western clothing. Ray Walker, Milford Legion commander, says volunteers will also attend a May 6 work day at the fairgrounds in Levi outfits to prepare the track and grounds for the two day race meet and gymkhana.

Gov J Bracken Lee and Ted Cannon have accepted Commander Walker's invitation to attend the Milford celebration. Valentine will arrive about 2 p m Friday and stay through Saturday night’s festivities. Committee meetings are held to solve the many details arising from the event. See Fortyniners page 2.

Scouts at Minersville sponsor talent show

Boy Scouts Troop 326 in Minersville will host a talent show Friday May 4 at 8 p.m. in the LDS recreation hall. Two age groups 12 and under and over 12 will be judged separately. Proceeds aid the annual Scout encampment expenses.

Dr Royden Braithwaite director of the College of Southern Utah will deliver the Milford High School Baccalaureate address. The service at Milford High School auditorium is set for 6 30 p m Sunday May 13 with a program of local musical numbers to follow.

PTA Elects Officers for 56 57 School Year

Mrs Leah Foerster was reelected PTA president for 1956 57. Mrs Edna Nichols was named vice president and Mrs Clea Wyatt as secretary treasurer. The officers were elected at the regular meeting last week. Speakers included J C Smith Carlyle Gronning Ray Kizer Dr D Aaymond Richard Bell and Rosslyn Eppich addressing the emergency 5 mill levy.
