Milford Area Social Roundup Amid Weekend Visits

A wide network of visitors and travels fills Milford notes. Mr and Mrs Alton Johnson of Salt Lake City and others from Pleasant Grove Ogden Ely and Provo dropped by or traveled to Milford this week. Local trips include Milton Pool in Vernal and Howard Cottrell medical plans. Utah Fishing Schedule 1946 Opens May 1 for Trout

The state lists fishing dates and places across Utah. Utah Lake remains open for at least another month with strong catfish catches noted by Fisheries Supt. M. J. Madsen. Late Freeze Kills Fruit in Valley and VFW to Elect Officers

A Wednesday morning freeze chilled the valley with temps near 20 degrees causing extensive damage to fruit trees in many farms. County agents plan surveys to tally losses as far east as Richfield where Mr. O. C. Koch reports heavy damage. Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 1546 will elect and install officers in May and obligate overseas veterans from MerMed and Mineraville in a public ceremony led by Commander W. G. White, with about 200 natives in the post’s near future.

Milford Clean-up Group Prepares for Active Campaign

The Milford Clean-up Committee led by Rudolph Nielsen advances an ongoing long-range program. Members stay busy with organizational work aiming to transform vacant lots into playgrounds for children, to reduce street hazards. A future plan envisions using nearby property near the potato pits for summer use with leveled lots for tennis or baseball diamonds. Charles Atkin son of Mrs Warren Atkin is steadying in a military hospital on Luzon after a bomb damaged him while aiding a 3 bomb demolition squad. He reports back healing with the left arm improving daily and no lasting ill effects expected as exercises restore shoulder and arm movement.

Cancer Drive Quota Surpassed in Southern Utah

The Cancer Drive oversubscribed its quota by 20 percent with several organizations not reporting after early meetings. A $120 oversubscription was sent to county headquarters last Thursday. Mrs. Ernest U'Ren served as general chairman with Audrey Russey and Ruth McWhorter leading school activities and Mary Williams directing South Milford efforts.

The Brands Agricultural College announces a new scholarship system alongside shell grants. UP Athletic Club Calls Ball Players for Practice Sessions

The Union Pacific Athletic Club plans practice sessions at the Pair Grounds next Monday evening May 6 to warm up and test players. They aim to field a softball team in city leagues, help form a Southern Utah hardball loop, and sponsor a full summer recreation program with a pool director and annual surplus returned to the town.

W. G. White was named precinct chairman in the Democratic county setup at a meeting held Wednesday evening last week. Mrs. Lillian Anderson is the new precinct chairwoman with secretary to be named. Minersville residents list moves to Arco Idaho and vacations planned to Salt Lake Springville. Local visits include Elmer Marshall and Stanley McKnight in Salt Lake. Town Board Backs Lease for Park Border Landscaping

At the Town Board meeting last night the board approved bills and an old grader sale for $75. Two street lights will be installed to light dark corners. The board will study granting long term leases to landscape the sand hill between the hill homes and Library Park and may landscape the area to improve town appearance. A quit claim was granted for delinquent property in the south end.

County to Benefit from RFPATR Money

Beaver County homeowners will spend over 207000 in coming years on electrical work and plumbing to improve service. The county’s 1149 firms and homes already served will gain from new wiring, bathrooms, and electric equipment as a council study notes widespread need for modernizing farm homes and running water.
