The Greenbure Amusement Company brings a week long carnival to Milfont with high class tents and White Way. Calliope music advertises the attraction daily while nightfall prompts crowds to enjoy the merry go round and other concessions despite cool evenings.
Dr Charles R Parrish Dr Lloyd P Kohler and Dr Addison Bybee announce a new medical and dental association. Parrish tones practice toward surgery gynecology obstetrics Bybee focuses on general medicine neurology Kohler aims to expand general dentistry with improved offices over Milford State Bank featuring central reception light sunny roomy and well heated access to Milford Hospital with X ray. The change to be effective by month end. vacant offices on A E McGarry property pending use.
The Bureau of Child Hygiene plans a Milford visit for a preschool Child Welfare conference offering free physical examinations for eligible children. The event, at the Mormon church, runs Thursday May 9 from 9 30 to 12 and 2 to 5 with demonstrations on Mathers' class work.
Minersville student Ye Miss Elya Hall has the honor of delivering the valedictory for Branch Agricultural College Cedar City graduates. Cedar City year’s highlights include Minersville triumphs with the B A C basketball team led by a Minersville captain and a top scholastic award won by a Minersville girl.
Thankful note praises Milford Volunteer Fire Department for their efforts on Monday evening. The writer credits the firefighters with preventing a much greater loss despite a challenging blaze.
Mil ford residents and organizations completed a week long Clean up Campaign turning streets and alleys neater. School children helped on Stoddard Avenue hillside while L D church members north of the school and the Lions club near Martins garage led efforts. The supervising committee mailed follow up letters and debated further cleaning and painting. Health officials urged action against dilapidated unsanitary shacks and town board warned no new outhouse permits in sewage connected districts. Dr Parrish warned of typhoid risk and several owners were urged to demolish unsafe privies.
Parowan Times reports officials moved to confirm cause of Mrs. Guyman’s death after questions arose. Council members, the Mayor, and ward bishops convened a Sunday meeting to hire Dr. Parrish of Milford and another local physician. They concluded the illness is spinal meningitis and warned against visiting the sick until diagnosis is complete due to its high contagion in southern Utah.
Mrs. June Sutton, beauty operator at Mrs. Chas Kelly’s, leaves next week for San Francisco to study permanent waving and hair treatment chemistry. She will be away a week after recently attending a Salt Lake convention of permanent wavers.
Notice from Watermaster T Kronholm stating only one well is in service due to sand clogging the second and being cleaned. To preserve supply and fire protection, residents are asked to use water only as absolutely necessary until the second well is back online.
Juvenile arson attempts to befriend Lady Nicoting cause a fire on upper Main Street at Nephi Edwards' home. Alarm at 6:10 p.m. firefighters prevented spread from a tarpaper shed as north wind fanned flames. Three nearby garages were saved while Edwards was away fifteen minutes before discovery.
Carl Elmer sold his Delta hose to Layton Maxfield and bought a Milford farm. He left Wednesday with a carload of household goods and will be joined there soon by his wife and two sons. The Elmers have long lived in Delta and will miss the community.
Alexander Rogers, a man in the middle ages, was brought before Milford town authorities on a vagrancy charge. He was put to work for ten days for the town. This marked the first vagrancy case in a long time, with the hearing held Saturday.
R E B Peters district commercial manager of Western Union Telegraph company Interstate division visited the Milford office to check affairs and gauge local conditions. He presented as a Monday caller assessing operations and market conditions.
Quick work by Juab county sheriff's force leads to the arrest of J.4 Smith and Frederick Alten of Chicago for grand larceny. The 19% Star coach was stolen Sunday night and recovered. The youths, ages 16 and 18, were found asleep in the car in Nephi and returned for court. Local officials suspect possible additional thefts.
The Milford airport will be lighted for sight flying soon. It now has two runways 2,600 feet east and west and 1,690 feet north and south, with an electric pole line to the southeast corner and a field fenced with wire and posts.
A Number 4 conductor wired ahead to Milford Tuesday asking authorities to remove an intoxicated man from the train. The man, thoroughly intoxicated, was taken off the train and jailed overnight. His destination was California, but removal there without ejecting him proved impossible.
The L D S Beaver Stake will hold its quarterly conference in Beaver this Sunday. Milford bishopric members were unsure on Thursday which speakers would be provided.
Sheep shearing is about half finished in Benver County with an estimated hundred bays shorn at the Williams corral in Minersville on Wednesday. Buyers are offering 29 or 30 cents, while wool producers seek higher prices. Milked by May 9, the county expects the season to end, with lumber and wood buyers also active at New houwe.
The dramatic department under Miss Leonard staged three one act plays on April 28. Ads for a Husband was blocked by a cast including Helen Bird and Ruth Revea l. Getting Acquainted featured Hamnora Hutchins Elms Bint and Tom Schow. Box and Cox was performed by Ferrin Frasier Helen Kinsey and Melvin Bowman. The program included band numbers and Girls glee club chorus led by Miss Smith with vocal solos by Roy Rogers Laurette Murdock Willis Whitbeck and Helen Bird. Irene Watts read.
An Oldsmobile offered for sale by A. E. Smith was mistakenly listed as available though already sold. Smith also sold new cars to T. W. Hoke who bought a Willys Knight sedan and to Mac Johnson of Bonneville Lumber who purchased a Whippet 5 sedan.
Miss Estelle Nebeker daughter of Mr and Mrs A C Nebeker left Wednesday to enter a high school pianists contest at Logan sponsored by Utah Agricultural College. The test will be held Friday May 8.
Marriage licenses issued to William Thom as Frazier and Sylvia Gillins both of Milford. Also license granted to Lavel Draper Hinckley and Zella Eliza Ames Meadow.
Mir and Mrs Melvin Cowley and children plan to move to Cedar City soon to make their home. Mr Cowley has worked at Milford Pharmacy and played in the Milford dance orchestra, and will be greatly missed. Mrs A J Twiss, mother of Mrs R E Bowman, arrived from Norfolk Nebraska with Mr and Mrs Bowmans three oldest daughters who will join their parents after finishing the Nebraska school year. Narvel Lightner of Minersville visited the News office on Wednesday. Delganto family and son visited Tuesday before leaving for Zion Canyon to run the dining room and hotel there.
The Lions met at Union Pacific Dr. Bybee was elected to membership. A renewed Clean-Up plan was urged, permanent policing of streets by the fire department was discussed, and Dr. Beatty of the State Public Health Department was cited on health authority power. Expansion of sewage connections and removal of outbuildings were favored to curb health hazards. A congratulatory letter will be sent to Principal M. I. Andrews for students’ town improvement efforts.
Wally Ontzeh distributes hand bills to announce Hanging Rock’s dance season opening this Saturday evening May 4, with the Milford Orchestra performing.
Three youths appeared before Judge Nichols last Saturday over theft of batteries from A. E. Smith. The judge urged reform, warning that more misdeeds would be attributed to them if they continued.
A May Day social was held at the Methodist church on Wednesday with a program arranged by Mrs. Cesterline and Mrs. Moore. The evening featured games and refreshments. Funds raised support the church improvement fund.
Weather Goff and Thomas Partridge Jr with Mesdames Tebbs Goff Levy and Talbot traveled to Milford last week. The Indies joined their husbands for a 49ers dance at Milford Friday. They report raving time and say it was the time of their lives.
A carload of Pontiac autos was unloaded here for the Beaver Garage Company on Wednesday. The shipment brings several models to be serviced and sold through local channels, reflecting the region's car trade activity.
Mrs. C. G. C. McDermond of Western Theatres, which controls the local Orpheum, will arrive from Salt Lake this weekend to supervise the installation of sound pictures.
