The town hosts its fourth annual Forty-Niners celebration amid period costumes and Auxiliary members dressed in 1849 garb. Festivities include a Pernille event on Friday May 2 with decorations, dancing, and carnival concessions running from nine until daylight, plus precautions for orderly conduct.
Union Pacific erected a rambling exhibit on the grass north of Milford station to show antique relics of the region. Passengers on trains will view the display, with a replica state coach planned on a platform inside a new novelty building enhancing the line’s Newark property.
Milford and surrounding rural area show population gains in the latest census with Milford at 1928, up 210 from 1920. Beaver City records 1667 residents, split 877 east of Main street and 790 west, while rural districts surrounding the town rise. Minersville 821, Adamsville 121, Greenville 79. Countywide totals not yet tabulated.
Mrs James Glenn census taker for the Star precinct reports the census is nearly complete but asks anyone not yet listed to report at once to finish the tally. The notice urges timely cooperation to ensure a full count in Milford.
Miss Beatrice Bates, formerly supervisor of nurses at Holy Cross Hospital in Salt Lake City, arrives this week to assume duties as nurse at Milford Hospital. Miss Reader departs Milford Hospital this week as Bates arrives, completing the staffing change.
Milford fund drive for the Highway 9 to Panguiteh road is lagging with about 176 dollars donated. The collection will go to the Beaver committee to match Beaver County’s share. Grading and leveling work has begun.
A son arrived at the Spence Schows home at nine o'clock on the morning of the 24th weighing pounds. Both mother and infant are reported well. William Hurst was down from Reuger yesterday.
Work started this week on sinking a new well to augment Milford’s domestic water supply. BIN Martin will drill a 12 inch hole to 100 feet near well No. 2, expected to yield 400–500 gallons per minute, boosting the town’s supply about a third.Completion of a third well should provide adequate domestic and culinary water.
Rovert Killam was riding his motorcycle when he struck a sedan driven by Mrs. Della Gray on Wednesday evening. He was thrown from the bike and sustained minor cuts bruises and sprains. The car sustained only a blown tire with no other damage.
Fourteen graduates this year include ten boys and four girls. Keith Rollins is valedictorian. The evening program will be shortened with no guest speaker and features a processional, selections, vocal and instrumental pieces, salutatory by Margaret Cochrane, and diplomas presented by Principal M. J. Andrews. A separate senior night on Wednesday will showcase musical numbers and a one act play.
Ed Marksheffel former Milford mayor received a thirty year service button from Knickerbocker general manager of the L A S I at the Union Pacific Old-Timers Club meeting in Salt Lake City. Attending were N B McKinnon R E B Seale from Milford and Mr and Mrs W F Cottrell members by reason of service. The banquet at the Elkhorn rooms was well enjoyed.
R C Murdock of Beaver opens a new feed store after buying Morris feed business in the city. He remodeled the building and stocked farm supplies, paints, wire fencing and more. Neil Boyter will manage the Milford branch while Murdock oversees Milford duties alongside the Beaver location.

A large audience attended a Monday evening reception for newlyweds Mr. and Mrs Clarence Gillins in the Minersville school gym. The bride Bernece Carter is the daughter of Mr and Mrs G W Carter. The couple received many gifts as friends offered congratulations. Dancing by the Minersville orchestra filled the night with a lap supper served late and guests leaving about midnight.
Mining men from Salt Lake City led by E F P B Dande F C Stanton J S Allen and Bruce Allyn visited the district Sunday to inspect several mining properties and assess potential ventures.
About forty Army airplanes flew over Milford on Tuesday morning heading west to Salt Lake for army air maneuvers. The peak was around eleven o clock with twenty planes in one group. They did not land at Milford, dipping low to check the field while winds caused a two hour delay in Salt Lake arrival.
Dr. D R Parrish bought a Studebaker President 8 this week in Salt Lake City through Bill Martin. He previously sold a Packard sedan to Mr. Blickenstall of the Moscow mine, a familiar car seen in Milford.
All graduates from Milford High School Minersville High School and Beaver High School will gather at Beaver next Friday evening May 9 for a single address by Melvin J Ballard with parents urged to attend The program includes an orchestra girls chorus invocation reading trombone solo violin duet and benediction with Ballard as the speaker and J F Tolton delivering the benediction
Milford Volunteer Fire Department may organize a baseball squad after Cedar City Athletic Club request. A Tuesday meeting discussed recruiting players, with only three or four likely from the department, but plans to field a team using local sources.
A party consisting of Miss Bernece Kohl and Muse Kohl, with Julian Tate and Howard Tanner, drove to Dixie Sunday for a visit to Zion Park.
The writer announces the sale of the Milford News to A. C. Saunders and thanks readers and local businessmen for loyal support. He notes the Saunders have resided in Beaver County for over three years and will continue Milford affairs, asking continued backing for a strong newspaper and printing service.
A club program featured a history of rayon development by Mr. Pool noting its silk like finish and the spruce wood origin. The program covered pulp sheets threads and alkaline liquefaction before forming fabric.
Mrs Mary A Morris dies at age 79 in Greenville a pioneer resident of the county She was the daughter of Robert and Mary Easton who immigrated from Scotland in 1850 They settled at Lower Beaver then Greenville Funeral services are to be held at Greenville today
National and state Holstein-Friesian leaders plan a May 10 visit to South Milford for a dairying session and a stock show. Experts H. A. Mathiesen C. H. Erickson Prof. George B. Cane and Lew Mar Price will attend with Lion Club help. An evening talk and livestock judging lectures are scheduled.
Raynard Hodges of Hodges Motor Company received a carload of new Ford cars on Wednesday. A roadster from the shipment was sold to Wilson McMullen of Baker Nevada. The Jefferson Mercantile Company bought two Ford trucks from Hodges.
The grammar school pupils of Milford will perform a spring pageant on May 7 if permission is secured. The event on campus is sponsored by the Parent Teachers' Association with admission charged to raise funds for needed school equipment.
Horace Palmer Jr of Milford won the hundred yard dash in Class B at the BHYU meet held in Prove Mindly and Satualiy. He beat a large field to finish in ten and a half seconds, showcasing his sprinting form.
Eph Smith longtime Milford resident dies at his Milford home aged seventy from heart trouble. He was born to John Andrew Smith and lived in Sacramento in youth before moving to Beaver County. Survived by wife Powell and son Powell in Milford and sister Mrs. Mattie Armstrong. Funeral plans pending word from Long Beach relatives.
The Milford News passes into Abe under signed ownership as presses remain separate from the Milford Press. Abe plans to expand the paper and grow in Milford and Milford Valley while continuing printing services under Bushman’s supervision.
