Milford High School juniors Ethel Cook and Gayle Edwards will attend Girls State in Logan in June as Milford’s representatives. Alternates are Sally Edwards and Margaret Root. Bennett reveals Utah plans for Mission 66

Senator Wallace F Bennett publicized detailed Mission 66 proposals for Utah National Parks and Monuments with a total estimated cost of 16.3 million dollars He urged top priority for projects including road access to Zion Cedar Breaks Arches Bryce Zion Dinosaur Capitol Reef and new or upgraded visitor facilities He noted Mission 66 remains tentative and must be enacted by Congress and urged swift action ahead of the 1966 NPS anniversary.

Water content drops at Beaver Mountain snow course

The Soil Conservation Service reports April measurements show snow water content at Beaver Mountain lower than prior years with Tuesday readings indicating reduced depth. Merchant Valley snow nearly two inches less than in early estimates. Otter Lake about one inch above 1955. Big Flat at 90 percent of last year. Measurements released Wednesday by the Soil Conservation Service.

Cedar Club Wins Gold Medal Casaba Tourney

Cedar City’s Cedar Club, loaded with former college stars, dominated the Gold Medal Casaba Tourney finals defeated Fillmore to claim first place. Mill’s Stag Stop pers finished second with Beaver and Minersville also among top teams. Cedar Sixth Ward and Delta exited on Thursday.

County Receives 48000 In Road Funds For 1956

Beaver County has been notified by the State Road Commission that Class B and C funds totaling 2 743 781 50 are allocated to cities and counties for 1956. Beaver County’s share is 48,499 64, up from 44 995 78 in 1955. Beaver City gets 4,315 15 Minersville 1,532 40 and Milford 3,978 99. County tax effort adds 17,273 99, making total 65,773 63 for county road expenditures in 1956. B funds will be available when local project reports are approved. Most money likely for maintenance with some new construction oiling and equipment.

Baby sitter saves children from fire in Minersville

Joan Eyre 11 years old was guarding Carrie 7 months and Michael 3 when an oil heater exploded. She closed the door, alerted her mother, led the kids outside, then retrieved a blanket. The fire damaged the bathroom adjoining room and ceiling, with $200 in damage.

Milford Post Office Set to Close at Noon Saturdays

Effective April 1 the Milford post office will close at 12 noon on Saturdays and revert to the standard hours used by other offices nationwide. Postmaster Norman Baxter says 1 pm closing had aligned with noon trains but newer schedules prevent it.

Final Beaver County tax monies distributed across districts

The 1955 tax collection was distributed by the county measurer per C Victor Smiths audit to state and local districts. Of 275727.95 assessed, 257109.16 was collected with abatements 149.96 for double erroneous and noncollectable 2497.96 and 14136.07 charged to tax sales redeemable in four years. Distribution includes County General 23184.08 and county schools 128781.87 among others.
