Twenty two men from across the Union Pacific line attended a Milford banquet of the Mechanical Supervisors association. W F Cottrell and Wm Morley organized the event with talk by General Manager Knickerbocker Superintendent J F Long Master Mechanic Norris and others on improving mechanical efficiency and inter departmental cooperation.

Forty-Niners Day prize list grows with new sponsors

The Forty-Niners Day celebration on April 19 gains three more local prize sponsors. Why-Not Service Station offers a balloon gauge for best decorated car, Nichols and Zabriskie Garage adds a fine automobile cushion for best looking Forty-Niner woman, and Milford Motor Sales pledges 5 gallons of gas for blondest Van Dyke. A committee will judge at the parade and ball as proceeds go to the American Legion public park fund.

Easter Services Across Local Churches

Under the Young People's Mutual Improvement associations Easter program will be at 7:80 p.m. at the church. Other services follow standard Sunday worship hours. Methodist Episcopal offers Easter morning service at 11:45 a.m. with a children’s program at 10:15 a.m. and evening sermon at 7:80 p.m. First Church of Christ Scientist holds its regular Sunday service at 11:00 a.m. and a meeting at 4:00 p.m.

Lions Club Meeting Mostly Routine in Milford

The Milford Lions held a routine session with scattered discussion. Sam Cline urged spring and summer programs and cooperation with the American Legion to build a public park, while members volunteered the Lions park committee for Legion projects. Plans for the Forty-Niners celebration were shared, a condolence note to Dr. H. C. Hunter was approved, and interest in visiting the Horn Silver mine was raised. The club praised Mrs. Atkin for lunch, noted limited attendance for charter night, and discussed improving wastepaper can use and a town clean-up plan assigning a block to a local organization. Dr. Parrish outlined a cleanup plan and sought town board timing and equipment.

Held to Answer to Charge of Felony

Joy Chanfullt was picked up on the streets Monday and held in Pomona California jail at authorities request. He faced two burglary charges after allegedly obtaining a small cash amount and cigarettes. Pomona Police Captain W S Kirrby arrived Wednesday and returned the prisoner, aided by local authorities and a railroad officer. He received a couple of nights of free lodging while in custody.

Dern Osborn Weds Aline Grimshaw in Mil ford Family Home

Monday evening at six oclock in the Grimshaw home, a simple wedding united Dern Osborn and Aline Grimshaw. Bishop W A Miller officiated as relatives and close friends attended. a buffet luncheon followed. The bride, daughter of Mr and Mrs John Grimshaw of Beaver, and the groom, youngest son of Mr and Mrs F L Osborn of Milford, plan to reside in Frisco where Osborn works for Tinie Lead Co.

Mrs C G Haskell Named Seed Analysts Association Member

Mrs. C. G. Haskell was elected to membership in the Association of Commercial Seed Analysts of North America for her active seed grading and analysis work in southern Utah. She aids her husband in seed harvesting and purchasing seed for eastern houses and studied seed analysis at Utah Agricultural College.

Windmills of Holland Operetta Delights School Audience

An excellent evening of music at the high school auditorium featured students in the annual operetta The Windmills of Holland under Miss Gwendolyn Shaith. Verna Bird and Lauretta Murdock drew praise for their voices. Dutch-themed costumes and preludes with the high school band and orchestra enriched the performance.

Ten P M Firestone Hour Set Mondays

The Firestone radio programs air at ten o clock on Monday evenings. Advertisements vary the hour due to shifts, with the notice appearing in A O Hardy's Minersville ads. The Gypsy Rover will be in Minersville tonight, and Louis F Starr visited from Glendale, California last Friday. Theatre tickets may be obtained at the News office.

Horn Silver Mine 1100 Level Open At Tintic Camp

Rehabilitation completed at Horn Silver mine in Tintic Lead district. A. G. Kipps says the 1100 level is ready for production with shaft straightened and new timber, guides installed. Leasers on levels 900 to 1000 drift in virgin limestone as exploration begins. Recent strikes include 600 south face of ore 12 by 4 feet and a second hit 25 feet above. samples assay 44 percent zinc 20 lead 20 ounces silver and 2.60 gold. Over 10 carloads of ore exposed on 2008 stope. carload of new mine cars soon arriving at Frisco property. Reopening and continued operations promise a busy Beaver County mining season and data gathering on faulting with rising lead prices.

Prom Decorations Dazzle Reporter

Perspiring junior class members have transformed the high school gym for their prom tonight. A pale green and white false ceiling, streamered walls, and flower booths create a stunning scene after hours of work. The prom committee includes Elma Bird chairwoman Horace Palmer Howard Jones Clyde Tanner and Margaret Cochrane. A junior prom for seventh and eighth graders follows Saturday afternoon with matinee seating.

Sonny Boy Atkin Receives Honors in Glendale California

Howard Atkin, Milford boy, won "Sonny Boy" honors for his patriotic poem "Honor To Washington" at Glendale California's Washington's Birthday program. His masterful rendition led to a Glendale News-Press front page feature. He is the son of Mr and Mrs Shirley Atkin and grandson of Mrs ALt Atkin of this city.
