Milford Lions Host Associated Civic Clubs Banquet in Southern Utah

The Milford Lions Club hosted civic club representatives from Cedar St George Kanab Panguitch Beaver Mt. Pleasant Kanab Richfield at a banquet and dance with about eighty Lions and guests. Dr Parrish was named master of ceremonies and a electric road map demonstration urged road link proposals to boost tourism.

Catherine Kampe of the Utah Children's Home Finding Society visited Milford seeking contributions for the orphanage. Three children from Moab have been placed in the receiving home in Salt Lake City, with arrangements to take in more from southern Utah.

Masons Enter Officers Sunday In Milford Lodge

The Albert Pike Lodge entertained grand lodge officers on Sunday with a Frisco trip and supper at Milford Hotel Cafe after a business meeting. Charter night in Cedar City preceded by Milford members. 89 attended a banquet at Escalante Hotel. Franklin Lodge No. 27 was installed with A Cline as master.

Parole Sought for Milford Auto Robber

Edward Tomer, serving five years to life for last December's Milford Garage holdup, seeks parole at the state board of pardons March session in Salt Lake City. After two months and five days served, he may be released upon obtaining employment, with sentence conditions lifted upon work. He was the younger convict alongside Harold Guyman, whose influence prompted officials to back Tomer's release recommendation.

Clean up Week at City Wells Under Deputy Kronholm

Deputy sheriff and city watermaster Ted Kronholm leads a quiet spring cleaning of city wells. He pumped sediment from auxiliary well 3 and whitewashed the pit in preparation for a new pump and switch. Eric Sanders and John Wells assisted, cleaning wells used in winter and summer to supply about 700 gallons per minute in summer versus 300 in winter.

Gun Club Doubles Round Fires at Milford Valley Range

At the Milford Valley Gun Club range a Sunday doubles competition tested members using the new automatic trap. President Martiez of the Associated Civic Clubs of Southern Utah attended as a guest while shooters attempted to break two pigeons released together before they land. Commissioners announce Beaver County schools will close on May 8 to cut the year’s budget shortfall. Many districts across the state are shortening terms this year, with some cutting up to four weeks. The district’s April 5 meeting will set the schedule for the 1934-35 term.

Pump Granted At Meeting Of City Trustees

Watermaster Kronholm received approval to buy a new pump for well number two and an automatic switch for well number three. A seven dollar and fifty cent expense for the Volunteer Fire Department was approved, with Dennis L. Clay tasked to check a flood light and chemical tanks. A garbage-hauling contract was proposed and two trustees appointed to draft terms while ordinance 13 to call in water bonds was passed.

The Minersville grade school held a spell down on Tuesday to pick a student for the Salt Lake Tribune regional spelling match in Richfield on March 27. Winner Mary Carter, sixth grade, placed ahead of Phyllis Marshall and Norma Jameson of eighth grade, with Ruby and Idona Craw following. Twenty students competed, coached by Miss Carter, P. S. Cross Roads Store promoted by Milford High alumni group

Milford High School alumni held a Monday morning one act comedy in the school auditorium. Directed by Mrs. Della Gray the lively play The Cross Roads Store featured Frank Carter and Hannora Hutchins in leading roles. Audience voted the show excellent with special praise for Max Root’s role as an ancient negro.

Milfra High School Prepares Contest Day Program

Milford High School music department outlines a program for High School Day events at Cedar in April. Marion Bowman Rosabelle Jones and Eloy Bird will sing while a girls chorus performs Berseuse. Violin solos, band numbers, orchestra selections, and piano pieces accompany student entries alongside visual art by Sarah Pool and others. The event is free to the public.

Car and School Bus Collision Near South Milford

A car driven by Bishop es H Bird collided at the South Milford road culvert with a local school bus driven by JL A Tomsik at seven o clock Thursday evening. The Bowman car suffered a torn left front wheel and fenders while the bus had a bent left front fender bumper. Both drivers were uninjured and the vehicles were taken to a local garage for repair. Clifford Landes rode in the bus.

Four Plays Tonight by M. I. A at the High School

The M. I. A. presents four one act plays in a county elimination contest to decide who will represent Beaver Milford or Minersville in the state competition. The Milford entry The Bank Account directed by Joy Christensen and Mrs Harvey Dean features Clyde Tanner Selene Binl and Mary Banks. Beaver and Milnesville also perform two and one plays respectively with music interludes and local M. I.
