A Milford column warns about spring trash dumping and highway littering, urges proper disposal at city dumps, and warns readers about junk mail gimmicks. It notes police action for improper refuse and recalls local anecdotes about a broken down car and a pawn for a used piano sale.
In the high school gym Thursday the Gold Medal brackets feature Mill's Stage Stoppers versus Minersville and the B and J Club against Atoco of Fillmore. Wednesday's results saw Minersville beat Milford Misfits by 14 as Wey slaved off a late push. Thursday schedule includes Beaver vs Cedar City Sixth Ward, Mill's Stage Stoppers vs Minersville, Fillmore vs B and J Club, and Delta vs Milford Misfits with finals Saturday at 7 pm and 50 cent admission.
Pre school and kindergartners not previously examined will attend a dental clinic at the Milford LDS church on Friday April 6. The Minersville session is scheduled for Wednesday April 4 with county nurse Diane McCulley assisting Dr Lloyd Kohler.
Folk dancing and waltzes are taught at LDS First and Second Ward Mutual sessions on regular meeting nights. Instructors include Bill Kirk and Mrs Lauriel Banks for the First ward and Mr and Mrs Norman Lamb for the Second ward. All interested persons are welcome.
Milford juniors unveil Off Shore as the prom theme for Friday April 13. Nautical decorations programs and music will feature. Y s Men from BYU Provo are set to furnish the evening’s music. Doug Memmett leads a committee with Dick Boi iun Sally Howards Gary Weston Judy Baxter Neil Smyth Margaret Reot Carlene Grooning Lynne Bracker Gayle Edwards Ethel Cook handling specific duties for a successful event.
Beaver County Democratic Central Committee officials met for a dinner in Minersville then a county-wide meeting. Milton Wellemann state Democratic chairman led remarks urging support for a strong governor candidate and party unity. Other speakers included Walter K. Granger, Jesse Tuttle, Marty Topham, Carlyle Granning, and Dr Eugene Davie.
Harold H. Turner fined 15 for stopping at a red light. Donald J. Hutchinson fined 10 for expired vehicle registration. Neela Brown fined 10 for no driver license case. Edwin A. Pils case tabled for no license.
Milford teenagers will take written driving exams Friday at the police station basement library with Marshals Fotheringham and Gale supervising. They will also conduct practice and simulated contest drives at a ramp course near the air park before the actual contest in early April.
Special services for Holy Week and Easter Sunday are planned at the Methodist Church. Palm Sunday events at Maom include speaker David Bjorem at 7:80 pm. Good Friday service is at TA0 pm. Easter Sunday devotion at 9:45 am with Sunday School at 11:00 am and an Easter Cantata directed by Mrs Farida Magill at 7:40 pm.
Mes Fonsi Magill will present a piano recital at the Soturity evening on March 24 at the Methodist Church. Students listed include Sally Williams Judy Horton Vrietin Lich Sheree Lish Sher ne Gitliis Elbie Gillin Bruce Mayer Lingee Mayer Russell Lee Mayer Dickey Mayer Craig Cullen Goodwin Ned Koliter Lynne Bracken Billy Myers Judy Jefferson Connie Cabrun Kay Labyin Linda Myers Lola Lamnis and Kalby Killam.
Frieda Wood of Minersville was elected Beaver County Republican chairman at the 1956 organizational meeting in the Beaver Court House Tuesday evening. Aird Merkley and George Murdock, both of Beaver, were nominees for the office. G W Carter of Minersville was named vice chairman and Sherman Carter of Beaver secretary treasurer.
Rev J H Valine of OP notes a Vatican decree restoring Holy Week rites. St Bridget's plans Holy Thursday 2pm Mass with a Eucharistic procession, Good Friday 2:30 pm Stations, Mass of the Presanctified, Holy Saturday confessions, and Easter Sunday Masses beginning at 1 pm with fasting ends at midnight.
Mrs Ruth McWhnerter and two children planned to join Mr We herb in Denver and Reno, with a daughter returning home next week. Mrs Bel Baker and daughters returned home after caring for her ill mother during the weekend.
Georgia Beth Smith daughter of Mr and Mrs George E Smith of South Milford won first place in the Rebekah Odd Fellow contest earning a fully paid six day trip to the United Nations Assembly in New York in June The six finalists were chosen based on essays exams and community involvement with judging by Prof Richard M Rowley The Milford Rebekah Odd Fellow lodges sponsor the Utah delegate selections and two other Utah students will also attend the pilgrimage.
Special emphasis on prayer and religious development marks a student week of prayer from March 26 to 31 at Milford Seventh-day Adventist Elementary School. Theme is All There Is of Me with daily prayer and meditation. Principal Sheldon Seltzer notes the event can profoundly influence students.
The Seventh day Adventist Church begins its annual Mission Appeal on Monday March 26. Mitford volunteers will visit homes inviting support for the church’s mission and welfare program spanning 183 of 205 countries. Pastor Sheldon Seltzer notes last year’s global church spending reached $60 million in medical, educational, mission and welfare efforts. Each solicitor will carry official credentials for the 1956 drive.
