Milford June Race Meet Sets Large Purses

Milford prepares for a three day June 27 to 29 spring race meet with unusually large purses totaling over $2000. D E B Kirk, chairman of the racing committee, announces Wight races on all days and a Miner's Handicap final. The event opens Utah spring racing, giving stables first conditioning chance this season.

Milford Hosts Speech Meet With Five Districts Present

Milford High School will host a regional speech tournament on March 30 with entrants from five Southern Utah districts. Eleven schools will be represented by contestants including Dorothy Campeau Bill McDonald Arwell Campbel Bert Leany Maurice Moore Malpha Lyman and Joe Murdock. The Milford team will also enter two events at the Weber Invitational meet. The topic for debate is Compulsory Military Training.

Milford Social Highlights Reach Across Mayhem and Travel

Milford Joins Safety Campaign

Milford, Utah joins a traffic safety push as Town Marshal Allen Bingham makes the first speeding arrest in months. Justice of the Peace C. 7. Martin hands down the heaviest sentence in years to Charles D. Class, 21, a discharged veteran, fining him 25 dollars and 10 days in jail with jail time suspended for six months. State tax commission was urged to suspend Class' driver's license for 90 days.

Minersville War Bride Fetes Marjorie Sherwood in High School

Mrs Marjorie Sherwood of Reading Berkshire England wife of Jin Sherwood will be honored with a party and wedding shower in Minersville high school gym on Saturday March 20 A committee announced the social affair Guests of the family are invited A program will be presented and dancing to music by the Minersville school orchestra The couple recently arrived at their Minersville home after returning from England aboard the Queen Mary with hundreds of other British brides of American soldiers

Town Board Hears Milk Ordinance Plan and Recreation Talk

President Carlyle Granning opened the meeting with the town board and planning board in attendance. Mr Bowers outlined a proposed milk ordinance enforcing Grade A standards and periodic inspections by the state health service, with dairies required to upgrade facilities, but the measure was tabled for further discussion with operators. Recreation plans for the summer were discussed, and a municipal power commission request was tabled for later consideration.

Grub Control Efforts Prove Effective in County

Cattle grub control work led by Hyrum Steffen shows reduced infestation in treated herds compared with untreated cattle. About 190 head of dairy and beef cattle were treated last year with 100 cattle owners participating. Multiple treatments are planned for the season with materials available from Beaver and Milford dealers.

Tubercular Test Drive In Milford High School

More than 280 Western Beaver County food handlers and school children were X rayed over two days at Milford High School to screen for tubercular infection. Results will be shared later with those infected and their physicians. a mobile unit funded by state health groups conducted the tests with local nurses and students assisting.

Milford's Melody Makers Swing Saturday Nights At Arion Hall

Milford's new dance band the Melody Makers sprang to life at a St Patrick's Day dance and will play each Saturday night at Arion Hall. Led by James Hickman on the allyhorn with a core of veterans and returning war governors the lineup includes Jack Davin Gerald Hickman Bill McDonald Bill Kirk Neal Hole ls Lex Moaners Harold Beard Johnnie Grimshaw and Annie Mae Grimshaw. A call-out house is expected to recruit the youngsters tomorrow night.
