Not Guilty Verdict in Manslaughter Trial of Curn Smith

After five hours of deliberation jurors found Curn Smith not guilty of manslaughter in the death of his wife Mary. A surprise defense witness and testimony shifted the case, ending with cheers from spectators as Smith was cleared at midnight Saturday.

Corn Smith Acquitted After Complex Trial Testimony

The defense argued Mary Smith may have died from a fall and head injury aided by alcoholism rather than being murdered by Corn Smith. Dr Hopkins testified the death could result from slow concussion, while evidence suggested Mary fell and later died in bed. Ten New Families to Develop Farms on Clark Project

About ten new families will settle in the Beryl district of Iron County this spring to farm and develop tarine crops. They plan about two hundred acres of potatoes and work on the Wig Clark farm, which has 220 acres of high quality yields and 160 acres to be seeded. The Clark farm, spanning several thousand acres, is operated on a modern scale as a model for the Beryl section.

Good Acting Marks High School Opera

The high school music department staged Gilbert and Sullivan's Trial by Jury last Friday with lively acting that earned full audience approval. Sherman Hickman as the judge showcased a strong baritone while Melvin Bowman and Virgin Killam delivered convincing performances as plaintiff and bridesmaids. Farrell Peterson and Charles Clements provided solid comic support. The cast and chorus captured the piece’s spirit though some rough spots and limited rehearsal time showed in the music. overall the production marked progress since Lelahawa.

Griffiths Named Clerk of Beaver County School Board

Beaver county School Board at Friday meeting appointed E. A. Griffiths as clerk to replace ER. N. Thompson who resigns to join Utacal Oil Co. as bookkeeper in Cedar City. Beaver City Pioneer W R Anderson To Receive Homecoming Honor

W R Anderson a veteran of the Black Hawk Indian War and longtime Beaver City resident awaits a July 21 to 24 homecoming and 75th wedding anniversary events. Born September 16 1842 in Nauvoo Illinois he joined the Mormon migration and helped build the Beaver community. He has 14 children 44 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren with nine living offspring listed including Jane Lang of Milford Nettle Painter of Bakersfield Ida Tattersall of Long Beach and Eliza Gunn.
