Milford's 1948 Red Cross fundraising drive, chaired by Mr. Nelson from a hospital bed, runs a slow pace as local railroad uncertainty dampens donor confidence. The piece critiques teenage culture, parent roles, and a proposed community recreation program funded by civic groups and the city board.
The Milford PT A will elect officers during its regular meeting on Monday March 29 at 8 p m in the High School Auditorium. The notice mentions story hour, directed play, and activities for young children with future outings and community events noted.
Senior Scouts sponsor Wo basketball games with Milton Ugh School and Milford Faculty meeting the Minersville Town Team. Cup teams win both games as crowd funds Scouts’ upcoming Star Scout tournament in Provo. Local attendance at Salt Lake Class B tournament noted. Beaver’s last game mourned. Mr and Mrs Darvin Marshall and Mr and Mrs Rulon Eyre return from California. Thurman Eyre and spouse welcome baby girl born March 14. Mr Kay will address an assembly of school children at 2 pm in the high school auditorium and again at 8 pm. He will present a discussion on the probe topics facing area tote townspeople. Wildlife displays will accompany both meetings.
With cooperation from Milford High School English and Speech departments the American Legion Auxiliary sponsors an ag contest judged by Friday March 28. Essays up to 500 words by juniors or seniors compete with prizes including a medal and a chance to enter the state and national contest. The national winner earns $100 and a World Encyclopedia. More than twenty Milford students will enter the local contest.
Mrs Viola M Palmer longtime Milford resident died in a California hospital after an operation. Services were held Monday at Pomona First Baptist Church with Rev Davidson officiating and interment at Todd Memorial Cemetery. She operated an art shop in Milford and was well known locally. Born November 2 1861 in Stockton California she moved to Milford in 1914 with her husband William Palmer. Survivors include a sister Nell Labrum of Hollywood four children and several grandchildren and great grandchildren.
A stork shower was held for Mrs Donna Bonham of Salt sale at her mother's home. Guests from Minersville and South Milford attended including Mrs Ployd Wright and Mrs Pearl Tolley. News covers a social ball, ship of Valjean Williams in the Navy, and a Young Married Club gathering with guests listed.
Two 14 year old youths were caught shooting ducks east of Milford amid a wet spring that left an old river bed as cover for thousands of waterfowl. Floyd A. Thompson of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service forwarded the incident to Washington, noting minors avoid arrest but federal law violations remain. A separate legislative push by Congressman Granger touted Utah coal beds as a potential 200 year oil source with Bureau of Mines and University of Utah studies claiming oil extraction from coal, a semi coke byproduct, and gas byproducts could fund processing, with a projected plant cost near millions.
Milford High School Tigers defeated the American Legion boys then issued a challenge. The College All Stars will face the Legion naires Tuesday March 29 at 8 p.m. on the high school fleet following a Milford High Faculty game. Notable players include Mordell Lund Meese Bing ham Outeen Jensen White Waddingham LeBaron. The Has-Beens seek revenge after a prior defeat amid laughs and likely thrilling play.
Mitford Ward Conference held Sunday March 14 attracted a large crowd. Visiting Stake members included A Carlos Murdock president Aird G Merkley first counselor Mark Woolsey second counselor and stake clerk Sherman W Carter along with Walter Kirk Howard White Charlie Jameson and Grant Tolton. Evening session awarded youth for New Youth movement achievements to Rora Jean Myers Aston Spathhower Kesler Ruby Wadsworth Sylvia Voorhees Priscilla Keder Nancy Aileen Marlys Gilling Ane wie Waddeams and Vanda Dols.
Aaronis Priesthood boys receiving awards included Ralph Moore Max Keetch Te Wayne Byers Clair Leany and Jay Bradshaw at a recent ceremony.
Raymond Moore Extension Forestry Specialist will visit Beaver County on March 24 and 25 to review windbreak tree planting and forestry problems. Residents needing help should contact County Agent Grant Explin.
George Miller seeks the supreme court nomination as the first avowed candidate from either party for the seat held by Chief Justice Piers McDorduah whose term expires this year. Miller, a Beaver County attorney, teaches at the University of Utah and has practiced law in Beaver since 19 81. He has served as county attorney, and as a juvenile court investigator, with Republican backing in Wish State political circles. He is married with several children and has held various public roles including chairing county party efforts.
John Barr arrived Saturday with feverish symptoms and relatives. Lorethie attended with two others, heading toward Salt Lake. Foret Scoll, Arden Rot Vins and others were noted. The Tibet Society hosted a celebration for the organization. Mr and Mrs Williams attended Mee Brain Williontes. Ma and Mrs Warren Shipp plan a southwest tour. Mre Josie Champion and Mee Theman Walker of Milford visited the Lawrence Thompson area during the weekend.
