Plans Complete for Civic Clubs Meeting in Milford

Milford prepares to host the Associated Civic Clubs of Southern Utah with banquet seating for 150 guests, two halls, and entertainment. Meetings open at 4 pm Saturday and 9 am Sunday with directors from fourteen counties. Visitors from Ely Caliente Hichfield St George Cedarr City Beaver and Salt Lake expected. Lehman’s Cave visit offered, special musicals, and a basketball game planned between the banquet and dance. Banquet tickets available from L A Wynaught and committee members.

Scout Mothers Organize For Scout Clothing Drive Effort

Scout mothers form an organization led by Mrs C T Martin to supervise mending washing and distribution of clothing gathered by Milford Boy Scouts under President Roosevelt’s national good turn. Officers include Mrs Nichols Baker Clay and Mastros with J B Webster praised for the program.

Pump At Desert Range Project In Pine Valley

The Desert Range Experiment Station pump started Saturday at 10 30 in Pine Valley to supply culinary water from a deep water well drilled to 650 feet. A 40000 gallon concrete storage tank will back the system while eight to nine thousand posts remain to be hauled for cross fences.

Service Men Women Club Formed in Beaver County

A Beaver county club for ex service men and auxiliary members is formed with an executive committee including B Newers and W G White V F W leaders, Mrs Stanley Puffer and Mrs Gene Pitchforth Legionauxiliary heads, and American Legion officers from Beaver Milford Minersville. The group aims to unite local communities with social functions planned in Beaver Misersville and nearby towns.

Milford Crowd Welcomes New Streamlined Train

A large Milford gathering at 4:45 am watched the Union Pacific speed train pass through with a ten minute stop. Senator George Jefferson and County Attorney Harold Cline joined the journey to Caliente, returning on No. 8, amid pride in modern railroad progress.

Mrs Pool and Mrs Williams Visit Cedar City Founders Day

Mrs M H Pool and Mrs David S Williams visited classes at Branch Agricultural College Cedar City with their daughters for Founders Day activities. They were joined in the evening by Mr Pool and Mr Williams, and the girls returned home for the weekend.

Utah Supreme Court Reverses Judge Cox in Bank Expenditure Cases

The Utah Supreme Court reverses Judge Leroy H. Cox in two cases involving the liquidation of the State Bank of Millard County and the State Bank of Beaver County. It rules the district judge overstepped by disapproving examiner fees, states the bank commissioner must prevail on service value, remanding for final approval of the bills with one upheld item.

Milford Airport sees limited air mail service resume

Under a Roosevelt suspension order air mail flight was halted nationwide at the start of the week with the last local plane taking off at 4 a m Sunday. Army air corps and civilians keep busy servicing cargo ships as a March Field crew repairs a California national guard plane damaged last week with a new wing arriving by rail. Local guards and civilian workers aided the craft until repair crews arrived and the aircraft is moved near the tent houses in a growing air field complex.

Beaver County Forestry Planting Program Expands In Milford Area

Beaver County farmers have planted about 2700 small trees in 18 sites over four years for windbreaks and woodlots. W. H. Hendrickson of Milford leads as top planters with 450 trees. The Utah State College nursery supplies stock. species include Russian olive, Siberian elm, black locust and walnut with suggestions for Milford area soils. Tree orders and info are available from the county extension agent and the Logan nursery.

Cedar Extension ships ore to Murray smelters

The Cedar Extension mine shipped 47 sacks of high grade ore to Murray smelters last Tuesday. Ore from the property tests as high as 1700 ounces of silver and 60 to 80 percent lead, with development by ten men ongoing. Hal Andrews of Salt Lake capital in town early this week to arrange shipments, optimistic about the mine’s future. Also noted are local Boy Scout leaders and district officials at Beaver’s monthly meeting.

Milford Band Mothers Club Formed At High School

Mothers of Milford band and orchestra students organized a club at a high school meeting last Friday. Officers include President Mrs L G Clay and Vice Presidents Mrs C T Martin and Mrs Wilson Moore. Next meeting is at 4 PM Friday March 16 at the high school.

Big Crowd Visits Lehman's Cave in Nevada

Visitors at Lehman's cave last Sunday numbered in the hundreds with Nevada residents predominating. C W A guides offered free tours, many arriving as groups, followed by a turkey dinner. Improvements included widened passages, new ladders, landscape and building work, and better roads. William J. Walker oversaw the cave project, while local Veterans of Foreign Wars work on an auxiliary club, open for sixty days for memberships.

Professor Dunn will visit Beaver County on Friday March 23 to hold a planting demonstration at the college in Logan.

Milford Health Campaign Urges Measles Controls

Towns report details C W A health project and the Milford measles effort. Children received physical exams and corrections. many remain to be treated. Parents urged cooperation, with rules to report cases, keep sick children home for 14 days, and isolate measles cases.

Wife of Power Company Manager Dies in Salt Lake City

Edith R. Waters 538 wife of B. Waters general manager of Telluride Power company died in a Salt Lake hospital after a brief illness. A California native and Berkeley graduate she lived sixteen years in Salt Lake active in civic and religious circles and well known in Beaver County through visits and company outings in Beaver Canyon.

Loop Auto Trip Shares Desert Range to Caliente Journey

The News family enjoyed a Sunday Monday loop with a tour of the Desert Range Experiment station near Pine Valley, a stop at Lehman cave in Nevada, and Caliente visits. They praised Caliente’s beauty, courtesies from editor E C D Marriage, and continued the trip via highways 93 and 91 toward Cedar City.

Milford men and wives host Beaver banquet and dance

About ten couples of former servicemen and their wives from Milford attended a banquet and dance at Beaver Friday night. It was the first in a series of county sponsored events aimed at veterans and their families.
