Milford Debaters Reach Semi Finals at Weber Meet

Milford High School debaters advanced to the semi finals at the Weber Invitational Debate Meet in Oxden on March 6 and 7, facing 14 teams from Utah and Tolngo schools. Teams Maury Outzen and Lisle Smith, and Carol Myers with Bonnie Vernon, led Milford with coach John Vioyarites guiding the squad. The regional meet at Parochin on March 26 and the state meet at Salt Like Chey on April 16 are planned milestones.

Milford Lions Propose Recreational Area Development

Milford Lions discussed recreation area plans at Buds Cate Thursday. The group considered hangar construction at Milford Airport but tabled the idea pending completion of airstrip paving and fencing projects. A committee was named to inspect Honeyhoy Ski area for winter facility improvements and scouts were asked to refurbish Rock Cove picnic area for summer activities.

Robert Limb laid to rest in Milford cemetery service

Funeral services for Robert Hyrum Limb 65 were held Tuesday in Milford Ward L D 8 chapel with prayers, solos, and remarks. Born in Beaver December 4 1941 he married twice and moved to Aymaford before his death. Survivors include his wives, children in Nevada Utah and New Mexico, and several Limb grandchildren across states.

Lucy Smith Wins 1947 Garl Raymond Gray Scholarship

Miss Laieille B. Smith daughter of Mr and Mrs J Te Smith is named winner of the Garl Raymond Gray Scholarship in Beaver County. The $100 Union Pacific award honors 4 H Club youths in agriculture and home economics. A Milford native and Milford High junior, she has prior recognition in oratory writing and music, with awards in Legion events in 1946.

The Negro Ghosts defeated Milford American Legion 61 to 54 in the High School gym last Tuesday. The barnstorming team delivered a humorous performance while also showing solid basketball, with fast passing and difficult shots, as the Legionnaires relaxed yet played well throughout.

Daughters of Pioneers to Erect Milford Ore Monument

The Daughters of Utah Pioneers will erect a monument at Milford honoring early miners and the Wiest metal mill. The structure in the Library Mink uses ore samples from Milford area mines. Citizens may donate ore specimens with mine names, left at Lettie Fotheringham’s home or The Milford News for labeling and inclusion.

Milford High Students Enter Dowling Award Contest

Milford High School students may compete for the Michael J Dowling Award for 1949 Foster seal design, sponsored by the Utah Society for the Physically Handicapped. Milford Airport Grading Under Way This Week

Mil port city and county crews began grading a mile long landing strip at Milford airport this week. Utah state aeronautics director Col Joe Bergin was notified that Milford has a 5000 dollar share of the 524 improvement fund ready. The CAA reportedly moved field lights and seal coat work will allow all weather use by various planes.

Minersville Cattlemen Plan April Stock Show

Minersville news notes the Minersville Cattlemen's Association met Monday to plan the April stock show with details pending publication. Local visits include Mrs Ivy Gentry of Richfield at the Spencer Roberts home and others from Aiko Nevada and Ogden. A recent Milfoed Legion basketball game ended 41 to 4. volleyball followed with refreshments served. Mike Kelney owns a new international truck in Cedar City and Mick Pryor plans to return to the Milford Valley area.

William Bond Is Buried Here

Funeral services held last Wednesday March 12 for William Michael Bond 69 who died Friday after complications from an operation in Milford Ward chapel. Participants included Penile Williams Lou Moore Laurence Mittridge and Burrall Marchent with a mixed quartet performance and solo selections. Burial followed at the Mufant cemetery with dedication by Rue Niclten.

U.S. Garden Contest Promises $4000 for Youth Growers

Announcement of the twenty first annual NIVGA production and marketing contest offers a $4000 fund for youths aged 14 to 21 nationwide. Applicants enroll through state demonstrations or through Professor Snyder of Mausam Omisrty State College and the W. Atlee Seed Co. in Philadelphia.
