Milford Lions Club Plans Weekly Speaker Program

Milford Lions Club members approved a weekly fifteen to twenty minute talk by local business or professional men at each meeting. Dr Addison Bybee was chosen to speak first on medical topics. The meeting covered road work reports, tax delinquency study, and plans to invite Weber College president Aston W Tracy to discuss junior colleges.

Whiskers Of 49ers Loom On Horizon Ball Date Drafted

A week in May is tentatively set for Milford Forty-Niners Ball with a committee meeting this Sunday to finalize the date. The slogan this year is Longer And Bashier Whiskers For 1980 as Legion men display growing whisker designs while preparing details for public announcements.

Storeroom for City Equipment Built Near Telephone Office

The town completed a new 14 by 26 foot galvanized iron storeroom west of the telephone office. The old structure was torn down and the building will serve as a parage storeroom and workshop.

Reward Offered for Capture of Peter Peterson

A $1000 reward is announced for the capture of Peter Peterson, known as the Swedish Dynamiter. He is to be sought at the High School Auditorium on March 165.

Minersville defeats Milford to end county season

Minersville High beat Milford 27 to 14 on Minersville floor to close the county season. Milford briefly led early but Minersville pulled away in the third quarter with a man to man defense stifling Milford. Jones shined at guard and Horton moved the ball well as the county regular season wrapped. Hinckley High won the district title and heads to the state tournament in Salt Lake City.

Moscow Shipments Reach Salt Lake From Moscow Silver Mines

Ore from the Moscow Silver Mines Company property in Beaver County Utah is arriving at the Salt Lake market at the usual rate. Two carloads reached the smelters early in the week one on March 2 and the other March 4 carrying 10.0 ounces and 11.6 ounces of silver per ton with high lead and iron contents. The shipments came from the drift off the winze at the 1665 ft level while the 1600 ft level work aims to reach the ore bearing bed. Leasers drift on a fissure in white limestone forming the hanging wall for more shipping ore.

Mrs Jensen Hosts B A Club Gathering

Mrs. Arlen Jensen entertained the B. A. Club on Tuesday evening in Medh illth. Present were Mesdames Flo Hanlon Nell Hutchins Blanche Himstreet Marie Himstreet Lauree Moore Ann Lee Annette Gleason and Freda Outzen. Mrs Gleason won the score prize for points and honors. A luncheon followed the bridge with Saint Patrick's favors at each place.

High School teachers hosted the basketball team on Wednesday evening. A delightful spread followed and the faculty earned praise for an entertaining and gracious event for the players.

The U S Forest Service directs effort to publish Beaver County gazetteer with correct names locations and derivations. Forest Ranger Elbert L Cox offers a $5 prize for accepted corrections and new names submitted by March 23 addressing origins for places like Wah Wah Antelope Spring and Cane Spring.

Lynn Wakefield of Provo visited with his brother Homer on Thursday and Friday. County Agent Lew Marr Price was in town Tuesday. Elders Frank Law and Wallace Yardley of Beaver spoke at Sacrament Meeting Sunday. Mrs Ida Van Patten of Springville, a former resident, died. Mrs Lillie Roberts and Mrs Emma Zabriskie left to attend the funeral. Various locals and visitors are listed with family and travel notes across Beaver, Littlefield, Provo, Salt Lake City, Helper, Rock Springs, and Big Springs.

Milford Lions Club plans public information booklet drive

The Milford Lions Club proposes a town gazetteer featuring business listings, a separate directory, train schedules, mail hours, a yearly calendar, and town facts. About a thousand large cards will be printed and distributed by local merchants, with each business contributing up to two dollars for space. If some opt out, space will be inserted for them.

Town Board Approves Fire Hose Purchase for Street Cleaning

At the last meeting the town board sanctioned buying a two hundred foot fire hose to flush and clean pavement this summer. The hose will not be used by firemen for street cleaning again, remaining available for emergencies. It was ordered from a Salt Lake supply house.

Milford Lions Club Dancing Party Planned at Odd Fellows Hall

Milford Lions Club members and Lionesses with invited couples will attend a dancing party at the Odd Fellows Hall on Saturday evening. Committee members J R Murdock R E Ellingsworth and L C Brown organized the event. Beaver Lions are invited and expected to travel the thirty two miles for the affair.

Milford Masons invite Grand Lodge officers from Utah to attend the Albert Pike Lodge PF and AM meeting this Friday evening. Officials planned to attend the Mil ford gathering and a heated case event will be held at the McCafferty Chiliamenin High School Auditorium on March 15.

Beaver County Commissioners Hold Regular Meeting

The Beaver County Board of Commissioners met at the courthouse to discuss the two year county records audit and immediate action. American Legion attendees urged funding for name plates on the dough boy statue while Lew Mar Price sought a food and meat inspector. no decision was made. The county fair board received assurances of support and levy timing for the 1980 county fair. James reported on South Milford road work as other road issues were reviewed.

Infant Boy Richard Jones Dies

The infant son of Mr and Mrs Richard Jones died Monday night. Funeral rites were held at the family home Wednesday afternoon from one to two o clock. Burial followed at the cemetery in Greenville with remarks of consolation offered by Raymond Taylor E H Birnh and Bishop W A Miller. Southern Utah Mortuary company handled arrangements.

Scott's Comedians will open a week's engagement at the Victory Theatre starting Monday March 14. The high class vaudeville troupe presents top quality acts with ten cent admission for all. An oldest lady and eldest gentleman on Monday night will receive a valuable present.

Family Moves to Milford From Salt Lake City

T. A. Mills, manager of the Safe way Store, is relocating his family to Milford this week. Mrs. Mills and their three children arrived from Salt Lake City to make their home permanently, lodging at the Forgie Apartments.

Miss Petra Young entertained her cand club last Monday at her home. Attendees included Marjorie Manear, Helen Manear, Roberta Morris, Sildona Jensen, Catherine Kirk, Irene Mumford, Ian Smith. Roberta Morris won high in cards, Marjorie Maner n was consolation. A luncheon followed.

Town to Improve the Water System

The town plans major water main replacements on Main street and MizKean street with cast iron and new four inch lines. A 400 foot extension for the telephone company will also be built. A future project contemplates a new well beside well number 2 behind the Jefferson Block with cost estimates being considered.

American Legion play At Milford High for Park Fund

The American Legion and Auxiliary present The Absent Minded Bridegroom at Milford High School with a 8:15 evening show and a 3:00 matinee. Admission is 35 and 50 cents for the night and 10 cents for the matinee. proceeds aid the park fund. The cast includes Legion and Auxiliary members and the production plans a later stop in Minersville on March 22.

Short Course at B A C Cedar City March 20 21

Palmer's Short Course will be conducted at Branch Agricultural College in Cedar City on Thursday and Friday March 20 and 21 under the Extension Division of Utah State Agricultural College. Directors Oberhansley and Dr Stewart will lead with Prof. George B. Caine and others lecturing on animal husbandry and agronomy.
