Road graders pull stranded DC-3 from Milford Airport hole

A 21 ton DC-3 with two million dollars in radio gear bogged down on Milford airport runway. After a two hour delay and 150 feet of damaged runway, state highway supervisor Max Baxter attached a road grader to free the aircraft, which was towed to solid ground. Crews from the Civil Aeronautics Administration and Clull Aeronautics Administration aided, then continued flight checks at Cedar City and Salt Lake City.

Total Loss Wreck Leaves Two With Minor Injuries

Madison L. Locke and Lonnie L. Roberts of Nellis Air Force Base Nev suffered minor injuries when their car overturned on a curve about 2 1/2 miles east of Adamsville while en route to Minersville to visit Lonnie’s parents. Driver Jack C. Larsh, also of Nellis, was not injured. After Milford hospital X rays, they were released. State Patrolman Gordon Farnsworth called the crash a total wreck.

Plans Made for Poliovirus Shots in Beaver County

A Milford meeting of the Beaver County chapter of the National Foundation for Infantile Paralysis discussed polio vaccination plans for first and second graders this spring. If the Salk vaccine is proven effective and licensed, the National Institute of Health will authorize its use, with evaluation results due from the University of Michigan in early April. Vaccination will be voluntary and funded by the National Foundation, with forms sent to parents of 240 first graders to request vaccination. Parents’ meetings will run March 14 in Milford Minersville and Beaver, and the Beaver County Commission agreed to purchase supplies. Continued on back page.

Tilford Delta road added to Utah state highway system

Early Thursday the Tilford Delta road was added to the State Secondary Highway System linking an alternate Southern Utah route to Salt Lake City. A Milford News report notes Rep. Harrison Conover of Springville said the House accepted a Senate amendment offered by Sen. Carlyle Granning to add the road to the state highway system.

Civil Defense Group To Hear State Leader

A Beaver County Civil Defense meeting is set for Wednesday March 16 at Minersville. Dinner will be at o o clock, followed by speakers Col. Walleye Pike to Be Planted at Minersville Reservoir

The State Fish and Game Commission plans to plant between 150000 and 300000 walleye fingerlings at Minersville Reservoir this spring. J Perry Egan says two million walleye eggs will arrive in late April or early May, then hatchlings will be planted about four weeks later. Publicity director Casey Bown notes initial large plantings help establish the species. The program aims to replace carp and other trash fish with a strong game fish, improving fishing quality at the reservoir.

Tigers Fall 55 42 to Millard in Season Finale

The Tigers end the 1955 season without a win as Millard Eagles win 55 to 42. Bennett led Millard with 22 points, followed by Gentry with 21. Wadsworth contributed despite a scoreless first three quarters, and Vaughn McDonald paced the Tigers with 10 points at halftime before fading in the second half.

Did You Know Flag and Light Rules for Overhanging Loads

Article outlines safety requirements for loads extending four feet or more from vehicles. During daytime, a red flag at least 16 inches square must be attached to the rear of the load so the area is visible to approaching drivers. At night, a red light or lantern must be displayed from half an hour after sunset to one hour before sunrise, visible to the sides and rear under normal conditions.
