Freshmen Run Assembly Program At Local High School

The freshman class staged an assembly last Friday afternoon starting with remarks by Principal Andrews. A piano duet by Ethel Tanner and Ranae Fermley opened the program, followed by a skit with Adele Kinney, Dick Johnson, and Norman Baxter. Venita Smith played saxophone, the Freshmen Songsters sang Believe it or Not, Julia Hendrickson performed a piano piece, and a second skit with Joe Rogers, Ethel Taner, and Walden Blackburn closed. A pep rally led by Jess Done followed the show.

Free Concert To Be Held At School Sunday Evening

A free concert is scheduled Sunday evening in the High School auditorium. Featured performers include Clair Johnson baritone and trombone, LaVar Isaacson bass, Mortimer pianist and vocalist, all from Minersville, Dr Parrish violinist and Lotus Hand baritone. The program, previously well received in Minersville and Beaver, will be sponsored at Milford with cooperation from three churches for music devotional services.

Milford friends learned this week of the death of Mrs. J. B. Rudert at Winslow Arizona on February 17. Mrs. Rudert was the wife of J. B. Rudert chief dispatcher here a few years ago. She was well known and had many friends among Milford people.

A small bonfire near the Milford swimming tank becomes a promotion stunt for the Milford Volunteer Fire Department as their engine parades through town decked with a large Dance Tonight poster. The event underscores the department’s readiness and flair for publicity.

Twelve Civil Cases Heard In Court At Session On Monday

Twelve civil cases were heard as the March term of the district court opened in Beaver. Milroyd resident Frank W. Gamour was granted divorce and custody of their minor child was awarded to the mother. Charles R. Parrish won his suit against Qlandis Putchings while O. W. Royce vs. Parrish was dismissed as settled. Joan P. Barton vs. Beaver Drug moved to Salt Lake City but was denied. Milford State Bank won judgments in its actions against Mary A. Ashworth and in a foreclosure against J. Schroeder. Other cases were set for dates in August, March, and May, with recess taken until Monday March ac when Cartwright case will be called.

Curn Smith Faces Trial Next Week

Justice Fred T. Gunn rules the charge reduced to voluntary manslaughter after a lengthy preliminary hearing. Witnesses described the scene at the ranch and the post mortem, while the defense crossed the prosecution’s witnesses and preserved the coroners jury finding. The trial is set to begin in district court immediately after the Cartwright case, with defense by Sam Cline and Abe Murdock and prosecution by A L Larsen and Harold Cline.

Milford Lions seek road plea from commissioners

Milford Lions met at the Milford Hotel Cafe to hear Sam Cline report on talks with the State Road Commission. Thirteen miles of Beaver Milford road could be oiled this year if the county and state fund and proceed, with Lions planning to travel to Beaver to press for action.
