He is the younger son of Mr and Mrs Carl Elmer and a Milford High School graduate of 1942. He joined the Army Air Corps as an aviation cadet in 1944 and later served as a gunner aboard a B 17 Flying Fortress. His brother Don Elmer, serving in Italy, wrote a letter to the family after Gael failed to return, and crew members from other planes say Gael’s fate seems hopeful. the family shares the same cautious optimism aided by the base public relations prints featuring the brothers.
