Local Fishing Not Up To Par In Beaver County

Opening of trout season two to four weeks late due to state policy brings disappointing catches in Beaver County. Most fish are large but palatability smeared by a sloughy taste. Some lakes show better palatability, while Puffers Lake yields small fish and poor quality overall.

Horses From Ten States and Mexico Travel to Milford Meet

The Milford horse meet attracts entrants from ten states plus Mexico with about 125 horses ready for two days of racing. Notables include Agua Caliente entries Anna Leo Wiley I and Theda Watson Palm Springs bringing Sally Ran, plus riders from Utah and nearby states. Air training bases: Cedar City lists 40 slots for pilots

Government official states America needs wings and the Branch Agricultural College Cedar City selects 40 young men to learn to fly. Ground training starts June 24 with two weeks of ground school before flight training beginning July 1. Southern Utah boys 18 to 25 urged to apply at the college for preliminary training.

Series Small Fires Keep Boys Busy

The Milford Volunteer Fire Department showed speed and efficiency last week with multiple incidents. A motorcycle fire at Miller Service garage was tackled in 65 seconds with 13 of 20 members aboard. A second blaze at Harold Baxter home damaged mining walls but Fire prevented spread to nearby structures. A hobo suspect is mentioned in connection with several neighborhood blazes. Firefighter Dick Johnson suffered minor burns removing his hot coat. D.G. Tanher arrived with Beaver mail and a cache of film. a bag was burned and a woman's suitcase destroyed.

Prosper Mining Holds Company Outing at Kent Lake

Prosper Mining employees and family members enjoyed a Saturday outing at Kent Lake on opening day of fishing season. The Old Hickory mine in Beaver County borders the Beaver area’s “Little Bingham” mine, among properties owned by the Prosper mining concern, recently incorporated, with about 85 workers present and one reportedly left the company during the event.

Company 1608 moves to Milford from Camp Burback while Company 74 shifts to Hooper for the Ogden Bay project. overall Milford’s GS-35 personnel, led by Clyde Torvert, remains, ensuring ongoing local works with minimal delay.
