A fragmentary quote depicts a wife sewing a vest button with a wire while a fat man complains about life. He laments that as soon as he gains sense to avoid trouble his eyesight fades, hair and teeth dull, and rheumatism sets in, hinting at aging and frustration.
Beaver County Agent Golden L Stoker reports plans for the annual field day on August 8 and 9 at the Great Basin forest and range experiment station east of Ephraim. The Utah State Agricultural College extension service and the forest service back the event with a program featuring speeches by Willan Peterson Ernest Winkler and Dr George Stewart plus music and entertainment for visitors. The evening gathering will address range management erosion control watershed protection and western agriculture and livestock issues.

Miss Evelyn Roberts 17, daughter of Mr and Mrs Frank Roberts of Minersville, drowned when floodwaters from a storm swept car toward the reservoir. Dan B Bushnell, 50, resettlement worker, barely escaped with his life. Debris and mud settled in the southwest corner of the Minersville reservoir with no body recovered despite rescue efforts by local volunteers and Milford boats. Surviving are the parents and siblings Bryant Maxine Kick Milford, Helen Maizie Lorraine Roberts and F A Bingham Milford.
Beaver County Fish and Game club plans a two day outing at Puffers Lake in the Beaver mountains near Milford. Hundreds from across the state will join for boating, fishing, racing, shooting and other contests with $500 in prizes. organizers promise good roads and family friendly camping facilities for the event.
Janthas Wright named lecturer in agronomy soils economic and general economics at Branch Agricultural College this winter. Former Millard and Hinckley high school principal and ex Hinckley agri culture instructor, Wright graduated from Utah State Agricultural College in 1927 with a BSc in agricultural economics. He studied at Wisconsin and BYU and belongs to Phi Kappa Phi. Union Pacific forms a separate research bureau headed by Otto Jabelmann to tackle technical problems for lightweight streamline trains. Jabelmann, a 30 year UP veteran, designed the two latest City of Denver streamliners and helped plan new tracks and other mechanical innovations.
Harry G. Taylor, chairman of the Western Railroads, leads a drive to place 6,086 weekly papers on an advertising list across the western U S to boost passenger and freight business. He cites decades of rail advertising in weeklies and dailies, noting the national reach from Great Lakes to Pacific and from the Canadian border to the Gulf of Mexico. He recalls his background in Nebraska politics and newspaper work and explains the 1985 Western Railroads advertising program extending to country weeklies as a strategic, value-driven move during economic hardship.
