Milford Lions Parade Wins Top Honors in Celebration

Milford hosts a large turnout for a community celebration starting at 6 a.m. with a parade featuring the Lions float depicting Progress and Lionism. Bands, banners, scouts, and queen floats followed, earning prizes for best divisions as residents packed the theater and church events.

Weed control program pleases state officials in Beaver County

Beaver County Commissioners and state weed supervisor George L Hobson praised the county weed control effort using 2 4D. Sites in Beaver Minersville and Milford showed strong results especially against whitetop and selectively killed morning glory in a Minersville wheat field. The program enables weed eradication during grain or corn production with minimal crop impact.

Farm and Home Safety Week Urges Alertness

National Farm and Home Safety week runs July 21 to 27 under President Truman. A broad campaign urges safer farms and homes, noting Utah losses in 1945 and listing a shock list of risk checks from machinery to water hazards and housekeeping. A USDA bulletin and an Extension Service folder accompany the drive, urging families to act now to prevent accidents and keep their homes and farms safe.

Milford Conducts Vigorous Control of Harmful Weeds Tour

A local weed control tour noted puncture vine as a dangerous annual weed with spiny burrs whose seeds persist for years. Milford is running a strong program to eradicate this and other weeds in town. Present were Mayor Thompson of Bosger, County Agent Hyrum Steffen, and County Weed Buyer Henry Hail along with commissioners and Mr. Hobson.

Mitford's Lions Club met Thursday night at Bud's Cafe appointing committees and voting in a new member. They elected a Lions-Lady Lions biennial for August 3 and moved to gather information on city status. Winder of the Utah State Department will be invited to discuss pros and cons. Milford Farm Lands Seek Soil Conservation District

A public hearing will be held August 9 at 8 p m in the Community Club House, South Milford, to gauge local support for a Milford soil conservation district. The meeting follows a petition from Milford farmers and will consider desirability, necessity, boundaries, with Roy Steffen and likely Vernal Bergeson in attendance.
