The Milford town board sponsored Monday evening’s mass meeting with near full attendance and strong public praise. The editorial lauds the board for supporting a county fair in Milford this fall, noting the effort by the hard work committee benefits the community and praising President Walter Martin for tactful leadership during debates.
Two Beaver County youths from Minersville depart by midnight bus August 4 bound for the induction center in Salt Lake City arriving August 5 at 8 45 a m. Perry Howard Aubrey orders 201 A is the regularly selected trainee while Marshall Hollingshead joins him. The Minersville resident had been working in a Washington government office under order B152.
Beaver County’s 1941 county fair will be held in Milford on September 5 6 and 7. Aimed to be the best ever, the event features purses totaling 1525 for daily horse races and other entertainment. D E Kirk is chosen to head the organizing committee with broad local support to ensure a bigger, smoother fair, while efforts will also address a 455 debt from the 1940 race meet through public contributions.
The July 19 vote at Fillmore elected Theo dore L. Madsen from Mt Pleasant to precinct 2 sheep section and reelect Alden K. Barton of Manti in precinct 1. In the cattle section Wilford W. Waits of Kanosh and Alvin Yardley of Heover were reelected from precincts 1 and 3, while Evan Evans of Delta was succeeded.
Inductees including 5 noncoms drew the majority of numbers in the second national selective service lottery held in Washington. Among 21 year olds registered July 1, the 50 noncommissioned officers came from six army posts and were hosted by local civic groups. The historic World War I bowl was used for the drawing, with cabinet officers, Congress members, and veterans’ organizations drawing initial numbers before inductees completed the sequence. Posts represented included Fort Meade, Langley Field, Fort Belvoir, Camp Lee, Ware Shoals, and Fort Dix. The bowl, on display at Independence Hall, had been given by Philadelphia mayor R. E. Lamberton to an American Legion escort.
Railroads announce two new streamlined trains the City of San Francisco and City of Los Angeles with inaugurations in late July and early August. Debuts include westbound Chicago to San Francisco on a 39 8/4 hour schedule and expanded capacity on both routes. Cars are aluminum alloy with modern amenities and three diesel units per train.
The Union Pacific Chicago North Western diesel electric streamliner car Hollywood features interior decorations using Formica walls and silvertoned leather, with Plexiglas lenses and bright red nylon upholstery. Lucite panels and tufted carpet blend with circular polaroid windows offering adjustable light, as the car joins 17 others on the Chicago to Los Angeles service set for mid July.

They visited Pensacola Baltimore Philadelphia Niagara Falls Detroit and the Mormon shrine near Hill Cumorah plus Yellowstone Park. Tosy the bear disrupted a photo at Yellowstone.
LaMar Morris youngest son of Town Marshal and Mrs William Morris arrives home Saturday for a week’s visit with family and friends before returning to studies at the San Diego naval base this weekend.
Mr and Mrs Karl S Carlton retired Beaver County publishers return to Milford after winter and spring in Florida visiting relatives and friends with daughter Miss Fanny Carlton who did missionary work and library training in Porto Rico Their roundabout trip added over 5000 miles to their speedometer as southeastern drought was breaking and the Midwest dust bowl era gave way to heavy spring rain and strong crops despite some farmers facing seed and planting setbacks.
