Metal Producers mill adds swing shift at Horn Silver mine

The $300000 Metal Producers mill west of Milford expands to a 26 worker swing shift as it grinds 500 tons daily and ships concentrates to Salt Lake smelters. The Milford operation includes ore from the Horn Silver dump and new open pit mining behind the original shaft with plans for a ball mill to process lower grade ore.

Justice Court Fines Handed For Fire Hose Incident And Whisky Sale

Walter D. Nielson of Ford & Ferguson was fined $1 and ordered to pay damages after driving his truck over a fire hose in Justice O C Koebs court. Molinos pleaded guilty to selling whisky and was fined $200 with jail time possible for nonpayment. Sam John King pleaded guilty to liquor possession and was fined $100 and sent to county authorities for nonpayment.

Pioneer Program Planned Saturday Honoring Utah Pioneers

Veterans Bid on Submotive Vehicles at Salt Lake Sale

Two Garages Burn at Martin Row Homes

Flames destroyed two garages and outbuildings in the Martin Row section of Homes. Mrs Arvelia Williams of Garrison and Joe Moore owned the structures. Fire around 5 PM Wednesday. cause undetermined, suspected cigarette in an outbuilding. Milford Volunteer Fire Department confined the blaze to the buildings, coal and wood lost.

Darryl Schramm Wins Legion Soapbox Trophy

After four weeks of derby trials the Legion awards the soapbox trophy and a pair of gym shoes to weekly winners. Darryl Schramm consistently outpaced rivals in each feature race while local competitors closed the gap each week. Officials plan to pit Schramm against out of town entrants.

Draft setup announced for Sixth Army selectees

General Mark W. Clark announced that 23 Army and Air Force Recruiting Main Stations in the Sixth Army area will handle preinduction processing for the first group of selectees. Registration may begin in late August for men aged 18 to 25, with initial examinations planned around September 22 and most draftees assigned to the Army.

Milford airport runway to be completed August 11

Milford’s mile long runway and 200 ft gravel shoulders will be oil treated with a 50 ft taxi strip and heated by a three month project. Contractor Ford and Ferguson, with federal state and city support, report completion by August 11 after July 28 oiling begins.

Bill Tribole Wins Cash in KSL Gold Fish Derby

Milford angler Bill Tribole caught a 12.5 inch 0.5 pound trout in the Beaver River between the power stations and mailed the tag for a cash prize. About 85 of 500 tagged prize trout have been caught statewide, with prizes from one to fifty dollars.
