Milford Selected for Pioneer Day Radio Control Station

Milford in southern Utah was chosen by the Commerce Airways Division as the location for a test observation station between Salt Lake City and Las Vegas. Gen. D Burz recommended Milford to Washington, with official approval. Two acres were secured from De Bybee, an alternate site may also be named. A 225 foot tower will be built, three radio operators will be stationed, and 15 workers will join the construction. The project aims to support airplane commerce over 500 miles and link with the line from Salt Lake to Las Vegas via Las Verne. Local Ward Voters Back Plan For New Chapel

A large meeting voted for a new ward chapel at Sunday services. Bishop Beck of Boyle Heights spoke on New Church Chapels. Building committee named Dr. Parrish chair. members include Joseph Smith Leonard Bowen Clark Kesler E H Bird and W E Bowman. Local donations and Salt Lake City funds will finance a $40,000 structure with a modern amusement hall. $20,000 to be raised locally.

Lions Meeting Dives Into Local Affairs and Travel Observed

Milford Lion Club members met at Union Pacific with about thirty attendees led by President Al Cline. Speakers included 15,000 Mile Trip by Cartan and aviation updates by Geo Barr. Topics covered agriculture prohibition politics and Lions International convention. Road improvements and Milford North Main street were discussed amid a lengthy luncheon.

Speed Freight Service Cuts Salt Lake to Milford Transit

Changes enacted last week speed freight from Salt Lake to Milford reducing delivery time by about a day. Freight loaded by 5 PM in Salt Lake reaches Milford by noon next day, except Sundays when offices are closed. Freight bills depart Salt Lake in the evening and arrive by 12:46 AM, with arrivals at 5:30 or 6:00 AM ready for local delivery.

Beaver Bank Loses In Court

The district court case State Bank of Beaver versus S. B. Betineaheat of Minersville resulted in a verdict of no cause for action. The bank had sued on a note and interest, drawing wide local interest due to many concerned parties. Ye and Mrs. W. F. Cottrell are spending a vacation in and around Portland Oregon.

Tragedy Takes Away Young Life At Milford Family Note

The news reports the death of eight year old Marthe Atkin known as baby sister to Milford friends. She died after being run over by a car on Monday July 15 in Milford. She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. S. B. Atkin, now of Glendale California. Funeral was held in Glendale on Thursday June 18. Immediate family members, Mrs. W. M. Palmer and Horace Palmer, traveled to Glendale for the service.

Rollins Couple Are Wed Fifty Years Golden Anniversary

Mr and Mrs Frank Rollins of Minersville celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary with a grandson led program and dancing. They married May 29 1879 and have forty one grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. The event drew forty five guests for refreshments.

Pioneer Day Celebrations Planned in Milford Parade and Events

A Milford Pioneer Day program features a big parade down Main Street at 8:30 a.m. with Miss Utah and Queen of the West, local groups, and businesses. Community Fair Set for August 28 by South Milford Club

In a special Sunday session at the Social Hour club, the South Milford Community Club fixed August 28 as the Community Fair date. Exhibits will be from the community and landowners only, with an exception for industrials including farm machinery. Ladies will serve a chicken dinner at noon and other reports covered club house well financing and construction.
