County's Water Supply Holding Up Says Humpherys

A state water report by Engineer T H Humpherys shows irrigation in Utah faces reduced storage owing to high temperatures and low precipitation. Reservoirs at Moon Lake and Beho may run short. Beaver and Sanpete streams run 60-80 percent of normal. Crop yields for peas tomatoes and beets are down in several counties, though many regions expect near normal harvests.

Nice Storm Tuesday Brings Milford Water Relief

A gentle shower Tuesday morning surprised Milford residents as 0.27 inches of precipitation fell over a 5 square mile area centered on Milford. W E Martin, Milford Air Board president, said the storm eased the town water system’s strain by reducing pumping demands during the siege to keep tanks filled. One pump failed to meet all demands during the storm day.

Community project unites city groups and churches

Milford Lions chief Moody named zone chairman

B. F. Moody retiring Milford Lions president and Milford High principal, now at summer school in Provo, is named Zone T chairman for Lions clubs. The clubs under Moody include Milford Delta Richfield and Salina. Overfelt of Gunnison also named deputy district governor for Region 4.

Hughes Williams earns one of Utah’s 25 100 Sears Roebuck scholarships based on high school scholarship, agriculture interest, citizenship and moral character. He holds the State Farmer’s key, has led state and local FFA chapters, and plans to study agriculture at Utah State Agricultural College this fall.

Milford Lions Visit Havana for International Convention

Murdock Jr a charter member and former president and secretary of Milford Lions Club left Tuesday afternoon with Mrs. Murdock to attend Lions International in Havana Cuba. They fly from Milford to Los Angeles to Miami then train to Havana aboard a California Lions charter. The trip coincides with a historic conference of 21 American nations and Cuba's national election, amid the expected fireworks.

Observance Of 1940 Pioneer Day Urged By Church

The first presidency urges observance of Pioneer Day 1940 with a Sunday program in each ward. A reading of prophetic scriptures and pioneer experiences is planned, with a channel broadcast in Salt Lake City at 9:00 pm July 21. Members are asked to participate and display their Pioneer Day fervor.

Cold Silver Claims Show Promise in Granite District Beaver County

The R. B. Cutler claims in Granite district Beaver County begin earnest work as gold rich ore heads north to smelters. The granite pass road mine has run 27 years but only recently revealed a main ore body. Vein runs 150 feet along north side hills with other holes finding lead silver and iron. Ross B. Cutler, once Beaver County sheriff, located the two claims and worked the mine. Isadore Lessing and Jim Robinson traced gold in the creek channel to the outcropping. Surrounding mines yielded pockets, but the present vein strengthens with progress.

Reminded of Heroic Girl Officers Are Installed By Legion Auxiliary

Mrs. Walter Weber hosted a Legion Auxiliary gathering at her South Milford home. After a 1:30 p.m. chicken dinner, six bridge tables awarded Vera Yepsen points prize and Metta Weston honore prize. Installation of officers followed with Yepsen officiating. new officers named include Metta Weston president, Naomi Hughes and Christie Lyman vice presidents, Ethel Nielsen secretary, Nina Bingham treasurer, Vera Yepsen chaplain, Ethel Smith historian, Erma Cline sergeant at arms. Eleven past presidents attended, including Lena McGarry.

The Branch Agricultural college in Cedar City offers free training under the national defense program. Courses cover general trade skills for employed and unemployed men and include evenings and day sessions.
