A Milford News column prints a letter criticizing a Civic Clubs pamphlet and endorsing sending a page to officials. It also reports W H Child urging a Delta Milford highway and a proposed free barbecue to promote a north south route from Ogden to Caliente. Three carloads of ore were shipped from the Honey Boy mine east of Milford in June with plans for a carload every three days as soon as about a hundred tons in the month are ready. The tunnel reaches 140 feet and the silver content rises from 20 to 80 ounces at depth, boosting expectations of a major Southern Utah mine. Fred Brewster of New Haven, a former mining engineer, purchased $2500 in stock after visiting last winter. Officials aim to employ at least 20 men by August as ore payback funds development.
R. E. Kaufman and George C. Murphy arranged drilling with Prairie Oil company of Tulsa for the Kaufman dome in southwest Millard county Utah near Milford. Negotiations completed in Denver and drilling to start after government permits. Geologicals from Indiana Oil confirm potential in townships 24 and 25 south ranges 18 and 19 west. Murphy and Kaufman are veteran operators. Kaufman previously sold a Murphy dome section near Thermopolis Wyoming for 15000 dollars cash plus royalty parts.
H. L. Hall a Long Beach well driller with state range contracts left Friday for the Ferguson desert northeast of Garrison where his next well is to be located. His gear includes a fast portable rig a water loading hauler and a comfy portable bungalow. He is accompanied by his wife daughter Lynnne and assistants Jake Dolliger and George Smith.
The Milford News reports the L D S Business College contest has five candidates tightly grouped in votes as the final week unfolds. Gertrude Dewey leads with 700 500, Olive Hardy 697 000, Audrey Raines 693 000, Evelyn Hickman 689 000, and Hannora Hutchins 687 000 votes.
Milford prepares for the 1985 Pioneer day with a strong committee and broad church backing. The program includes a parade, L D S chapel program, children’s races, softball, and a 9:00 p.m. dance, with involvement invited from all local organizations.
D. W. Muir and his son Walter came back Thursday morning after a business trip to Salt Lake and a brief visit with relatives in Tintic.
Attorney Sam Cline injures ankle while vacationing at Puffers Lake. He moved slowly after stepping from his cabin door and sought treatment in town July 24. Dr. Shannon prescribed a cast to be worn for some time.
The dining and lunch room staff at Union Pacific was expanded the first of the month with G. T. Peer named full time manager, previously acting as chef. Bill Singleton becomes chef, Charles Williams as cook, Tommy Davis hired as helper, and Alma Hollis named house man engineer.
Miss Lois Altman daughter of Mr and Mrs T Altman returned home Sunday from Los Angeles where she attended school last winter and recently visited her grandmother there.
Three judges have been named to count votes for candidates in the Milford News-L D S Busi ness college scholarship campaign which ends July 17 at 6 00 p m. Miss Olive Hardy of Minersville is among five high candidates allowed to name a judge.
The St George team of the Southwest Utah Baseball league, first half winner, beat Milford to extend their undefeated record. Continued on page 4.
Lad Woodrow Bennett 18, star pitcher for St. George, was critically injured by a pitched ball in Milford St George league play. He is recovering in a Los Angeles hospital after a broken sygoma bone and jaw injuries. Milford manager J C Root plans a double header on Sunday July 28 at Minersville and Beaver with Cedar City and Parowan to raise funds. An exhibition game between St George and an all league selected nine is also planned for Pioneer Day in St George while Milford will contribute players. William J Burns and Robert Burns left for Salt Lake City.
The Lincoln Mining Company of Utah reports it now operates under a state charter with offices in Milford. Officers include Harry A. Hirst president Louis A. Sanford vice president and general manager Hilman L. Robinson treasurer Walter C. Wellman secretary Henry Churchman director Samuel M. McMunn comptroller. Reopened last October after 30 years, the mine is reconditioned for expanded operations with new equipment and ongoing prospecting. Dewatering began May 1 and extra pumping gear will be kept ready to ensure underground safety. The firm aims to develop the property fully, remain a metals leader, and boost staff from 12 to about 24 by August 1. The Lincoln specializes in lead and silver with possible zinc copper and gold values. main ore bodies are believed untouched. Sanford and McMunn will reside in Milford. other officers and eastern stockholders will visit frequently.
The Union Pacific tennis court hosts busy play for two weeks with men and women preparing for singles matches and a mixed doubles tournament next week. S. G. Hickman leads the men’s events with Madeleine Keough and Vurry Killam guiding the women. Desert Range Experiment Station teams will face Milford club members on Sunday July 14 on the royal court, with a return match the following Sunday.
A Salt Lake paper reports a marriage license was issued this week in Provo to Lawrence Alfred Bishop of Lehi and Treta Walker of Milford.
