Coast champions and challengers enroll for Utahs first national dirt track contests at the Centennial Exposition July 24 26 and August 12. Bayliss Levrett Emory Collins and Loren Fondable headline entries from Glendale LeMars Wichita as IMSA officials project 20 to 35 cars for the four day series at State Fair Grounds oval with a swift course and $10 000 purse.
Utah fish and game reports show 318 violations through June 3, 1947, up from 190 the previous year. More than 100 arrests occurred in June alone, with 40 fishing violation arrests in the last 13 days. penalties ranged from 25 to 30 dollars for offenses such as fishing without a license and fishing out of season.
Mr and Mrs Ray Beachier entertained at their Jet Hughes residence with a list of visitors. Guests included a daughter Foti and Wallace Hughes of Remmurer Wyn, along with Misses Diatiare and Elaine Hughes of Farmingtas, who spent a week there as visitors.
Ray John Sutton, injured in an airplane crash north of Milford on June 27, is recovering satisfactorily at L. D. S. Hospital in Salt Lake City. His wife Mrs. Sutton, visiting Milford, says he is up and about in a wheelchair with two broken ankles and a fractured jaw. He will need wheelchair and crutches for about four months.
Dr. John Curtis, State Veterinarian, will send a tester to Beaver County to thoroughly test all mill cows for Bangs disease starting Monday July 14. Cows tested last fall must be retested, and all other milk cows in the county will be examined. Heifer calves four to nine months old should be vaccinated against Bangs disease, per the veterinarian. Further details may be obtained from the county agent.
Mr and Mrs Vernon Beard and Mrs Charles Beard visited Prove last week with Harold staying beside his son in law. They then went to Salt Lake City and returned with Mrs Beard on Tuesday. Father Peter Klaig a Franciscan priest held instruction classes in Milford for two weeks and said mass each morning. Mrs William Denny returned from Ogden with grandchildren Linda and Lynette McCarty while her daughter Betty McCarty recovers from rheumatic fever.
Milford notes report Bert Merryweather receiving treatment for a bruised knee at Milford hospital. Mr and Mrs Cecil Bates of Garrison welcomed a baby girl born June 30 weighing 6 pounds 3 ounces. Another baby girl was born to Mr and Mrs Nourse of South Milford on July 4. Mr and Mrs Jay Christensen welcomed a baby girl on July 4. Hazel Baxter was hospitalized but released home midweek. Mr Billie Robinson, husband of Mamie Dotsan, underwent a tonsillectomy.
Beaver County Cleaners suffered a loss valued over 700 dollars last Thursday evening when 30 trousers four suits and five pair of slacks were stolen. Entry was gained through a back window. a back door was opened to remove garments. Co owner Mr Chamberlain returned to the plant and frightened the thieves possibly saving further loss. A trouser pair was found near the Union Pacific tracks suggesting transient suspects. Insurance covers the loss and replacements will be made.
Lorin Goff 58 of Boulder City Nev formerly Minersville died last Saturday in L D S hospital Salt Lake City after a heart ailment. He was born October 1888 in Minersville to James and Margaret Goff and married Ethel Booth of St George in 1908 who predeceased him in 1940. Funeral in Minersville L D S Chapel conducted by Bishop Harald Baker featured prayers songs remarks and solos. Interment followed in Minersville Cemetery with Jule Gillins dedicating the grave. Survivors include nine children and a brother Kay Gott of Ogden among others from Salt Lake City Panaca and Boulder City.
In a Milford hospital report this week Donald Jones son of Mr and Mrs Ruben Jones underwent an appendectomy while Susan Hene Jessep had tonsil removal. Judith Cook, widow of Mr and Mrs Jess Cook, also received a tonsillectomy. Howard Lund and Sid discussed operations for sinus relief.
Milford Airway Communications Station and Weather reporting service will move during the week of July 20 26 from West Milford to the Milford Airport building. The old site will retain high power transmitters and equipment owned by the federal government. The new airport station will remotely control old transmitters and add very high frequency gear plus a weather office to assist pilots with up to date flight planning and airport information. The Weather Bureau plans staff to join the station. timing for personnel is not yet set.
Mr. and Mrs. W. F. Parkinson and their three children Ella Jean Genevieve and Paul left last Monday for Oklahoma to spend their vacation with Mr. Parkinsons relatives.
The Beaver County budget for 1947 48 totals 288 946 01 dollars, up by 46 215 28 from the prior year s 322 730 73. Transportation and debt service drop, capital outlay doubles, salary costs rise. DI Pearce named superintendent to replace Melvin Wittwer, with Arlie Messinger chosen as board clerk.
Mia Devota Heslington, longtime Salt Lake City beauty parlor operator, opens Dee's Beauty Box in a renovated building north of the Firmage Wheater. Weбереж Miss Carlier Waddoups joins as assistant operator, serving Millord's Fentliotin residents with fingerwaving and hair styling in blonde, licunette and auburn shades.
Beaver County 4 H Club announces a three day camp at Kent's Lake July 14 15 and 16 led by Miss Betty Jeanne Stone Home Demonstration Agent with help from Lois Smith Extension Clothing Specialist and Grant Esp lin Agricultural Agent. Programs begin 730 p m daily and campers will arrive at noon Monday. Recipes for campers include basic pancake mix guidance and butter dipping with optional add ins such as blueberries or cinnamon.
Minersville marked the Fourth with a 4:30 AM parade featuring floats. Miss Fiyton Davis and attendants won best float. 4-H Club led by Mrs Erma Gilling won third prize. A sports program followed at 2 PM with races and boxing, a 5 PM children's dance, and evening racing at Hanging Rock Pavilion. Local visits included Lou Carter and J. T. Ryan family, with postmaster Ruben W. Dutson noting the post office rise to a fourth class status.
Statewide centennial event schedule runs at the Exposition Grounds with exhibits titled 100 years of American Painting. The program includes Opera Star tributes, National Governors Conference in Salt Lake City, a trek from Nauvoo to Salt Lake City, Pioneer Days at Monticello and Wasatch County Fair events.
