Former Milford Man Drowns in California

Clarence D. Sweet 34 of Cedar City and former Milford American Legion commander drowned at Mission Beach near San Diego while attempting to save his wife Winifred Cruickshank Sweet during a belated honeymoon. The couple were on a two week trip. Mrs Sweet survived after being rescued from a riptide.

Society Notes From Local Club Gatherings

The C C club met at Miss Arlie Stoddard's home Monday evening with Mrs. Crawford Mrs. Peterson and Miss Stoddard among the members and guests Mrs. Thelma Zabriskie Dora Johnson and Mrs. Vic Johnson of California. Mrs. Peterson won the club prize with Mrs. Dora Johnson as consolation. A luncheon was served. Miss Ida Crawson hosted the Past Noble Grand group Wednesday evening with several members attending and refreshments at eleven.

The total valuation for Beaver County for 1929 is 6 559 216. Real estate stands at 1 031 376 with improvements 820 565 livestock 994 690 personal property 1 268 793 and utilities 2 458 798. Automobiles 87 cows 1901 milch cows 4014 range animals and 109 177 sheep head count are listed.

Boulder Dam Underway in Great American Desert Development

Work begins on the Boulder dam project a 316.5 million development in the heart of the desert. survey crews and road layouts start as railroad lines and a large construction camp are planned to support hundreds or thousands of workers. Government engineers say no immediate hiring.

Two Pioneers Die in Beaver

Thomas J. Parkinson 70 dies at his niece Ethel Walsey home after long illness including asthma. Parkinson known in Beaver County for freight work between Beaver and Milford. Survived by three children, two brothers, two sisters, 27 grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Daniel Duane Harris 75 dies after months of illness born October 8 1864 in San Bernardino California. Survived by widow Fannie Tolton Harris six sons and siblings. Community notices follow including visitors from Bethel Kansas and rental news from Milford News staff.

May Extend Puffer Lake Road to Junction

Beaver and Panguich officials report progress on extending the Puffer Lake highway over the divide to Junction with the Sevier highway. The Beaver county commissioners back the plan and will meet Pluto county officials. State road and forest service officials favor continuation, with a standard highway possible next year if agreements are reached. State Road Commissioner Osborn and colleagues surveyed canyon work for summer projects.

Milford Hotel Dining Room To Open Saturday

Mr and Mrs Jack LaVaux arriving this week will run the Milford Hotel dining room and move to Milford. Mrs LaVaux once lived here and worked at Burgstrom store. Mr LaVaux is an experienced chef and the opening is set for Saturday July 12 at 5 pm.

Tintic Lead Co shipments from its Horn Silver mine at Frisco Utah reach a new high for recent years in the first half of 1930. From January 1 to July 1 the company shipped 278 carloads of ore versus 180 carloads for all of 1929. Last year production began in May, so 1929 results cover only six months.

Evangeline Neilson Wins Victory Theatre Prize

Mrs. Evangeline Neilson claimed the first Two Dollar and Fifty Cent Gold Piece drawn at the Victory Theatre on Saturday night. Another gold piece will be given away to a lucky patron each Saturday night, while Milford continues to attract out of town visitors considering business in the town of southern Utah.

Milford Pool to Open Tomorrow in Town Dedication Planned

The Milford swimming pool, built by the Milford Lions Club with town support, will open to the public at 10 o clock tomorrow morning. A formal dedication may follow later. The pool features bath houses and showers and is described as one of the finest in the state.

Marriage of Anne Murdock and William Burnett Surprises Milford Friends

The Milford community notes the marriage of Miss Anne Mur dock of the Paris Beauty Shoppe to Mr. Wm. Burnett. The couple left Tuesday for a two week honeymoon, unsure if they will return to Milford or stay in Salt Lake City.

Milford Hospital Sees Busy Week With Surgeries and Births

Milford Hospital ward capacity reached this past week as numerous surgeries and births were reported. J Zola Rogers, 11, underwent emergency appendicitis surgery. Mrs. E. C. Barton and a son of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Goodwin had tonsil and appendix procedures. Verna McGrew born a son after train arrival on July 6. Lora Darlington gave birth to a baby boy on the 5th. Pauline Mathews remains seriously ill after an earlier appendectomy but shows improvement. Rex Marshall suffers blood poisoning from a fall July 4. William Stewart improves enough to go home from Moscow mine injuries. A Milford beat Beaver in a 12 inning baseball game 6 to 5 with Livergood and Hill pitching for Milford. Mr. and Mrs. A. Hendrickson report slight improvements in Ely, Nevada.

New Polling Districts Formed in Beaver County

Beaver County commissioners approved two new polling precincts at the regular monthly meeting. The Stay district split into Milford District No. 1 west of Main Street and Milford No. 2 east of Main Street with other precincts in Beaver, Milford, Adamaville, Minersville, Greenville, Thermo and Grampion. Local residents tour farm crop prospects and residents travel for outings as community notes and travels are reported.
