Utah Declares Closed Fire Season From June to October

County Fire Warden Jasper Puffer reports Chief Forester J Whitney Floyd has proclaimed a closed fire season for Utah from June 1 to October. High temperatures and drying winds raise fire hazard along low altitude faces despite snowy winters. Sheriff Puffer issues burning permits only when conditions allow and urges Beaver County residents to cooperate to prevent wildfires.

McCulley Retires After 50 Years as Railroad Telegraphist

A. F. McCulley of Milford Allew Mace retires after a long career beginning in 1902 with the North Alabama Railroad. He later served at Milford in the UP depot, witnessed the LA&SL and UP transitions, and noted the arrival of telephones and teletype. Born November 17, 1885 in Paint Rock Alabama, he married Mary Beard and lists numerous McCulley relatives in Milford and nearby towns.

Father of Frank Sullivan Dies in Salt Lake

Frank Clement Sullivan 70, a retired Union Pacific railroad engineer, died Friday evening in a Salt Lake hospital of a heart ailment. He served 47 years as an engineer, led BLE Local 349 in Salt Lake City, and was active in the US Old Timers club. Born Feb 28, 1882 in Yale Iowa, he moved to Salt Lake City in 1903 and married Genevieve Connell in 1908. his survivors include his widow, three sons Frank Jr of Milford Kenneth J and Francis Leo of Salt Lake City, and daughter Mrs Genevieve White of Bountiful, plus 11 grandchildren and one great grandchild.

Circus Day in Milford Highlights One-Ring Show

Next Monday July 7 Milford hosts Circus Day with John A Strong bringing a one-ring show to the high school area near the tennis courts. Use DDT For Control Of Garden Pests

Grant Esplin of the Utah Extension Service recommends a 5% DDT dust to combat garden pests. Pill bugs or sow bugs are light gray fat-bodied, roll into a ball when disturbed and feed on roots. Slugs and snails are grayish, slimy, and leave a slime trail, eating large holes in foliage. Caterpillars, including woolly bears, are chewing insects that voraciously consume foliage.

Milford tennis tournaments begin July 14

Milford hosts a series of tennis tournaments as part of summer recreation. Aaron Hansen, recreation director, announced events for singles and doubles in senior and junior divisions. Entries must be submitted to Mr. Hansen or The Milford News by July 10. Carol Brannon of Salt Lake is visiting Milford for summer vacation.

Cars Damaged In Accident On U-21 Sunday

A dust cloud on U-21 three miles east of Milford caused a Sunday morning collision when Mrs. John Wilcogh veered onto the shoulder and her car side swiped a second vehicle driven by Charles Alsin. Both cars sustained over 250 dollars in damage. no serious injuries. Passengers included Allen Atkin, Keith Whittaker, Patricia Wilcock, and Judy Wilcock. road closed briefly during the dust storm.
