A garbled feature blends humorous musings on dreaming and thinking lightly with assorted vignettes. Under Secretary ML Wilson tells 166 4 H members from 42 states at the Eleventh National 4 H Club Camp in Washington that farmers are moving beyond frontier individualism. He highlights open-country traditions, land respect, and farm family unity as foundations for broader cooperation that could shape rural life. The event runs June 18 to 28.
Beaver county voters approved a $55,000 school bond issue in a landslide with Milford leading at 197 yes to 12 no. Beav er district 128 to 16 and South Milford four years in favor, Minersville opposed 7 to 48. Bonds finance shop and auditorium construction, grade school remodeling, with 5 percent interest and twenty year serial maturity.
Millard county crews with heavy equipment have widened and graded Highway 91 W from Oasis to Reed to a high standard. The project reduces travel time and eases earlier tough sections. Surfacing has improved the Clear Lake area and a sandy Bloom stretch has been relocated and surfaced.
Milford Independence day plans include a $100 fireworks display, two candy showers with 100 pounds of wrapped candy, a baseball game against Minersville, pony races, and a Dutch lunch. Sponsored by Veterans of Foreign Wars and Auxiliary, funds cover prizes and candy. Auxiliary funds stay separate from treasury. Events run from 6:30 a.m. sunrise salute to 12:00 p.m. lunch at Milford Hotel with a parade on Main Street ending at the L D S church.
Old residents Bishop and Mrs BE Bird and children Ardith and Donald left last week for upstate residence. Their temporary address is at son Lavon’s home in Ogden. The program features prizes for tub race, boys and girls balloon races, oil and clothes races, diving and water polo. A diving exhibition and life-saving demonstration follow. Lawn ride races begin near Union Pacific with candy for nonwinners. Events run from afternoon into evening with pony races, baseball, candy showers, casino games, and fireworks display from the high school.
Return to Long Beach California after a two week trip through Utah Idaho and Yellow Stone Park. The Sackett family were hosted by Mr and Mrs Osborn and enjoyed visits with relatives and friends. They toured Prisco former Sackett home and recalled early Horn Silver days. Mrs Griffiths and Mrs Osborn accompanied the couple.
The Firmage Theatre plans opening soon though remodeling remains incomplete. Manager C L Firmhage says patrons will be comfortable with a completed air conditioning unit and the hot weather demand for cool spaces. J L Kester, the lead builder, has run multiple shifts since Sunday to move the project forward, with the remodeled building nearing a distinct, creditable form.
At a Lions meeting in Union Parlor dining room members discussed protesting miner Frank D. Williams of Minersville over his claim to water access at Rock Corral for stock use. A petition was prepared and signed by attendees to object to the Williams application, with plans to mail it to the Salt Lake bureau. The club approved continuing the protest plan through the year.
Mrs Schow underwent surgery for appendicitis in Cedar City on Wednesday after accompanying relatives Mrs Myron Lewis and Mrs Powell Smyth to the city. She is reported to be recovering well. Relatives from Las Veras, including Mr Selaw and daughters Mrs JH Weston and Mrs Crookston, left Milford Wednesday evening after visiting. A note from Milford announced the death of Max Mentensuhin of New York, father of Mrs Eugene Pitchforth. Mr Mendelsohn has visited Milford several times.
Four Milford youths from Milford County travel to Fort Douglas for the 2nd annual C M T C camp. Angell, Williams Jr, Murdock, and Jamies are listed among the 1937 participants. The 30 day encampment, under Major Allender Swift, aims to build citizenship, patriotism, and physical fitness through military drill and sports. An experienced staff and reserve officers will lead Company A B and C with athletic, chaplain, and medical posts filled by named officers.
An announcement by regional grazier F H Frengell states advisory board elections in districts one two and three occur July 28. Incumbents up for reappointment include cattle and sheep sector members across West Millard Sevier Beaver and surrounding counties with terms expiring.
President Marie Rolling and Mrs Vertride Cook hosted the Hovial Howe club with members and two visitors. A July 11 family picnic was set for Beaver Canyon Park at 12 30, inviting all local families to bring their own weiners and volley dishes. Marion Walker left for Columbus Kentucky to join her CCC camp husband. Reva Baker of Salt Lake City visits the Baker home. Rudolph Nielsen and Mrs Nielsen with her mother Mrs Chebtenten visited South Milford friends.
County 4 H livestock members prepare to compete in the Thomas E Wilson national meat animal contest now in its eighth year. About 8500 4 H members nationwide have earned medals and other awards. hundreds have won gold watches state prizes and trips to the national club congress. State champions will be judged for state honors before November 1 and the overall winner advances to a Chicago trip with top three winners receiving scholarships of 300 200 and 100.
