Permanent committee proposes youth recreation program

A permanent committee would develop a fulltime yearround recreational plan for youths to provide constructive entertainment for all ages. Some locals doubt extra programming is needed, citing church activities Scout programs and high school events. Others note teens hang out at pool halls and on streets seeking something to do. Telluride Starts Work on Flats Transmission Line

Seven linemen work this week reconditioning the South Milford flat transmission lines. A 19,000-volt load will replace the present 60 volts after reconditioning. Company official Clif McShane says preparations for a 13,000-volt load aim to meet future demand as the southwest Milford area is converted to the new line.

County farmers seek soil and dairy improvements at meetings

Countywide sessions on Crops and Soils and Dairying heard proposals to curb erosion with land tillage changes and irrigation, promote efficient manure use, fertilizer practices, crop rotation, green manure, and seed quality. Attendees included local farmers, soil conservation staff, and extension agents.

Milford Legion Seeks District Seven South Runner Up After Beaver Loss

The Milford Legion fell to Beaver in the season finale on Beaver soil, leaving Milford at the top of the standings and set to meet Kemmerer from District Seven South in the regional tourney next Friday and Saturday February 6 and 7. Milford trailed 19-37 at halftime, then narrowed the margin late but could not hit enough baskets until the final quarter. The upcoming inter-state contest versus Kemmerer will test Milford’s readiness for the state championship run.

March of Dimes Campaign Nears Final Week in Utah

The March of Dimes drive enters its second and final week with Utah chapters behind quota. Milford chair Lee Rogers reports progress as state chairman Ira Huggins says efforts will continue to the last day. The campaign cites about 100 polio patients treated in Utah and notes average cure costs around 20000 per patient. A final dance in Salt Lake City closes the campaign.

George Horton Takes On More Duties At Branch AG College

George Horton and Bill Armstrong assume new duties at Branch Agricultural College to manage the Itching Past soda fountain in the Commons Building. They will oversee operations during open hours and act as social organizers. The fountain, in the new student cafeteria, includes a lounge area and already serves as a popular campus meeting spot. Utah publicity to promote tourism with 12 000 photos

Liley Brossard and Barbara Busby of state employers present photographs depicting 100 Utah scenes. The State Department of Publicity will mail the images to national publishers as part of a broad effort to attract tourists, with more than 12 000 pictures distributed to major newspapers and magazines nationwide.
