The young son of Mr and Mrs Anthony Stephenson formerly of Nada was discharged to home midweek from Milford hospital after treatment for double pneumonia. A large audience at the high school heard Mrs. Frank Doble describe life in the Philippine Islands. She noted natives want to speak and read English, Shakespeare as a favorite author, and the islands’ possible path to independence. Mrs. Doble wore traditional attire and displayed native costumes. A piano accordion solo by A. H. Baker and talk on adult education closed the meeting.
New officers of Escalante post No 1546 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars were elected Saturday January 16 at a meeting attended by Walter Anderson Salt Lake County commissioner and state VFW official. The post named J G C Jeffers commander L B Waddingham senior vice commander O W Stoker junior vice commander A E Kanert quartermaster adjutant Wm B Gardner Joe Hanlon and J Rickerson trustees.
A recent report from the Bureau of Agricultural Economics, via the college, projects lamb prices will be lower in the December to April fed-lamb period than in 1986-97. It notes December prices were higher in 1937 than December 1936, and predicts a seasonal rise from December to April this year will likely be smaller.
Mil ford Lions Club votes to hold meetings only on the second and fourth Wednesdays at 6 30 PM, switching from weekly sessions. President E R Shannon cites club needs and members agree to new dues of six dollars per quarter, with survey results guiding further plan.

The Ladies Aid Society gathered Wednesday at Mrs. W. P. Cottrells home to sew for Parmington Mission. Present were Mrs. John Stahl, Mrs. Mattie Armstrong, Mrs. Rossi ter, Mrs. Fred Jefferson, Mrs. W. A. Hendrickson, Mrs. Frank Doble, Mrs. J. F. Tribole, Miss Lucile Estes and the hostess. Light refreshments were served. The next meeting is set for February 9 at Mrs. Doble’s home.
Utah led the eleventh farm credit administration district in real estate sales by the Federal Land Bank of Berkeley during October and November. Of 63 sales across Utah California Nevada and Arizona Utah accounted for 31 sales totaling 59758 dollars and the district total was just over 204000 dollars.
Willis Whitbeck director of the Beaver County Fish and Game association asks The News to publish the annual meeting set for Sunday February 6 at 2 o'clock at Beaver. He notes a 10 cent bounty on crows paid by Milford sportsmen with no association funds used. Any unspent balance will buy feed for 14 wild turkeys purchased by Milford sportsmen and kept at the state game farm north of Springville. Local talk of a Milford Fish and Game club continues but no formal action has occurred.
Adamsville girl dies from skull fracture and internal injuries after being struck by an automobile near her home. The driver George Rodgers of Milford and passengers were en route home when the tragedy occurred. Sheriff Niels Jensen and County Attorney Theodore Bohn led the investigation.
Mrs. Clara Skinner Root 30 wife of Postmaster J Cass Root died about noon Thursday ending a sickness that began long ago She had just returned home from Cedar City a week earlier and was improving when the end came while nurse Mrs Angie Lyman Root was briefly out Funeral services set for Sunday at 2 00 pm at Milford L D S chapel with burial in the family plot in Reaver An obituary will appear next week
Gold and Green Ball placards are being printed this week for Milford’s annual event to be held Friday February 4 in the L. D. 8 recreation hall under Milford Mutual Improvement Association auspices. It is described as the outstanding social event for local youth organizations.

Bill Scarbrough remains confined in Milford hospital.
The Business and Professional Woman's organization met at the Milford hotel last Thursday night. Plans for the coming year were made and Mrs Sam Cline reviewed past achievements. Mrs Georges Jefferson will present an article on Our Towns Business at the next meeting.
