Minersville Farm Disease Outbreak Kills Twelve Cattle

A Blackleg outbreak in Minersville over the past week has killed twelve cattle and prompted vaccination of more than 100 head. The disease struck quickly and, though two of six treated animals recover, officials urge strict carcass disposal and precautions to prevent further spread. Meetings February 3 at the B A C feed yard and school room will present feeding test results in cooperation with the Utah Experiment Station.

Poor Livestock Poor Market for Good Feed

The article urges herd records and culling cows producing less than 300 lbs of butterfat annually to cut feed losses. Heavy Snowfall Grips Beaver County Areas

Beaver Valley received eight inches of heavy snow with .66 inch water content. County road crews cleared No. 91 highway and canyon roads to the upper Telluride power station. Snow depths reached 19 inches at the Telluride station, three feet on South Fork Beaver River, and two feet near Merchant Valley dam, with ongoing flurries into Monday.

Minersville Man John Hollingshead Dies at 65

John Hollingshead longtime Minersville resident died at Milford hospital Saturday from peritonitis after an appendicitis operation. He aged 65 and is survived by wife Ida Lee and many children including Clem in Miami Arizona Athella Lee Dollie Wadsworth Elmer Goldie James of Caliente Melba Wood Cedar City Garland Stanley Ida of Minersville. 24 grandchildren. Funeral services were held Tuesday at the Minersville church with Bishop George Marshall presiding.

Margaret Williams Dies at Home of Pleuro Pneumonia

Margaret Ruth Williams 22, Milford native daughter of John M. and Ruth Moore Williams, died Friday of pleuro pneumonia after several days illness. Born August 19, 1910, she attended Milford schools and a Salt Lake business college. Survived by parents and brother John M. Williams Jr. Funeral at M E church conducted by Mesdames Cottrell and Wilson. services followed by interment in Provo with relatives.

Gillespie Winn Nuptials in City Home

Mrs Ada Winn and William Gillespie were married Monday evening at the bride’s home with Bishop BE Bird officiating. One mail plane diverted and forced to stay overnight at the local landing field during Saturday’s storm. Jos KR Murdock conducted business in Beaver yesterday.

New Equipment at Local Radio Plant

The local broadcasting station adds new standard equipment replacing the temporary transmitter. A key upgrade enables two way voice conversations with pilots, keeping them updated on local weather en route. The radio beacon and other gear are to arrive soon, funded from last year’s appropriation. Four operators are on duty with two more planned soon.

Millard Division basketball ties shake up standings

Delta beat Fillmore 39 to 23 to clinch the top in the Millard Division. Beaver defeated Hinckley 29 to 25 to tie Fillmore for second place. Milford won 23 to 12 over Minersville to claim third. Upcoming games include Fillmore at Minersville and Milford at Delta Friday then Fillmore at Beaver and Milford at Hinckley Saturday. Bill and Lawrence Ranson visited from Salt Lake City last week.

Utah mining men visit King David property in Beaver County

Fourteen miners work on a new double compartment shaft at the King David property in the San Francisco mining district Utah. The shaft reaches about 80 feet with 4 to 6 feet daily progress. The project links to the 670 foot level and is to be finished by May 1.

Braver Men Get Two Cougar N Beaver Mountains

Two mountain lions preying on deer near Black Mountain east of Beaver were brought to town by Lester Carter and Ed Larsen. One lion, six feet long, killed a four point buck on Black Mountain Tuesday. The mate was tracked the next day. a well aimed shot stopped it near the Telluride plant, but the carcass rolled off a cliff and was recovered later by Carter and his son.
