Renowned Scientist Bateman Dies En Route to New Awards
World famous Caltech mathematician Prof. Harry Bateman died on an eastbound train between Lund and Milford while en route to receive a New York honor. He is survived by his widow Ethel Bateman a daughter Joan Bateman and a sister Miss Annie Bateman.

The Milford Lady Trainmen take over ticket sales for the Birthday Ball on January 30 with Mrs. Frank White as ticket committer chair. William Bond Dies at Home in Milford Utah
William Samuel Bond aged 82 died at his Milford home on Monday January 21 from natural causes. Born February 5, 1864 in Porterville Utah to William and Ann Bonds he moved to America from England with the L D S church before marrying Armena Barkdull in 1885 at Hatton Utah. He worked for Union Pacific on a section gang and later owned a Reed farm. ordained high priest and bishop in 1914, served 18 years as Reed ward bishop, later bought a South Milford farm and moved to Milford in 1940. Survived by wife, five children, fifteen grandchildren and one great grandchild. Funeral set for Sunday at 2 p m in the Milford L D S ward chapel with services led by High Priest Corum and director Bishop Ira Fishes. Visitation Sunday 10:30 to 1:30 at the Bond home.

Milford Soldier Promoted to Major During War Leave
Captain Harry F. Jefferson of Milford, on a four month leave earned through nearly four years of Pacific theater service, was promoted to major. He enlisted in 1940, rose from private, and served in the Solomons, New Guinea, the Philippines and Japan, earning five campaign stars. He visited Milford friends and relatives before continuing his leave with his parents in Eureka.
