The Birthday Ball for the president will be held at Arion hall on Wednesday night as part of a nationwide gala effort. Milford leads local planning with Dr. R R Shannon as general chairman and Mrs J D Ryan as vice chairwoman, Harold Cline as secretary treasurer. Seventy percent of proceeds stay locally for infantile paralysis rehabilitation while thirty percent goes to the national committee for research. A 25 cent birthday message option via Western Union adds funds for both local and national causes.
Temperature swings in Milford featured a 26 degrees below zero minimum on Sunday and 21 below on Monday per Charles E. Beard. Airways station readings stood at 15 below for both days, showing townside warmth. About 5 inches of snow fell, with 0.25 inch water content, plus 0.06 inch additional precip on Sunday.
Charles James of the Tri-State Radio Service in Ogden arrives in Milford for a month or more of radio trouble-shooting. He guarantees improved reception or no charge and will address local interference with advanced loop equipment.
A large number of parents and teachers enjoyed a PTA social at the high school last Friday. After the business meeting a program by grade students featured a song by Master Nolen Hughes and talks on history characters by Josephine Hickman and Helen Jean Schow. fourth grade students performed a skit. Dave Heslington's sixth grade won the reward for most parents represented. Refreshments were served after games led by Miss Gladys Coleman, with regular meetings set for the fourth Wednesday each month.
Cold weather stalled the fight carnival as volunteers faced blizzard gusts to stage five three round bouts. Local youths Lee Rogers Frank Holmes Jack Kirk Doug Ryan Ennis Rogers Ilo Limb Wallace Lane Stan Limb Doug Kirk Owen Smith fought to draws until Kirk won the final decision. CCC athletes arrived late and joined the program, adding excitement to the event.
The American Legion Auxiliary met last Saturday at Mrs. Ethel Nielsen's home. President Jennie Bowen led the session as members discussed active programs and future plans. Reports covered the St George December convention and Beaver visit with national VFW chief James E. Van Zandt.
Mrs. Phyllis E. Waddingham 70 of 352 West Fifth North Salt Lake City died Wednesday in Los Angeles at her daughter Mrs H C Banning home from a paralytic stroke. Born July 6 1846 in Deal England she came to the U S in 1887 and Utah in 1897. She leaves a son Lindsay Milford two daughters Mrs Brown Bush Salt Lake City and Mrs Banning Los Angeles and six grandchildren. Funeral services in Salt Lake City will be announced.
Card from China shows Mrs. Susan Glenn Milford Red Cross treasurer received the Marines message from Albert J. Keller E company 4th Marines Shanghai thanking for Christmas bag gifts and noting appreciation.
At the Wednesday meeting President O. Koch announced a plan for brief talks by a different member at upcoming luncheons. Lions Wynaught Murdock and H. Cline were tasked to organize Associated Civics Clubs memberships. A delegation will attend Parowan Lions Charter Night February 1.
Mrs. Mabel Axline of Utah American Red Cross spoke at Milford chapter for a meeting that drew less than a quorum. She promoted a ten day life saving course at Como Hot Springs in July and a Salt Lake social workers course March 11 to 15. Informal discussion on committee vacancies followed with no actions taken.
Applicants for 1935 automobile registration must submit items to the state tax commission before 1984 license plates are issued. Required are: Application for registration, a new fully filled form. 1984 tax certificate issued by the county assessor. last certificate of registration. certificate of title only if ownership changed. and proper registration fee as shown on the back of the application.
A two week mining and prospecting course opens Monday January 28 at Milford High School under geologist H G Walter. The program, tied to the state department of public instruction, offers evening classes with field trips and map use, laws, and mineral studies for youths and adults in western Beaver county. Milford joins Tooele and Eureka as host sites with strong enrollments expected.
The Minersville Roots Basketball Squad confirms an ownership addition and specifies a $1.00 title transfer fee. It notes that the applicant’s driver license is not required for registration.
