Lee Rogers leads the Milford campaign with Vance Fisher oversight. Containers placed in shops, dime cards in schools, and special envelopes to merchants support the cause. A double header basketball evening pits Comic Hasbéens, Legionnaires, Milford Tigers, and M-Men in a half and half format. Proceeds go to the March of Dimes with a postgame Dance That Others May Walk.

More Fires Yet Fewer Acres Burned in 1947 County Report
Utah forestry officials released a special bulletin showing 1947 statewide 158 fires, well below the five year average of 194. Beaver County's report, via Sheriff Jasper Potter, notes two fires under a quarter acre and one above a quarter but under ten acres, with three fires blamed on lightning.

Bishop Hunt Visits Milford Catholics Construction Progress Updates
The Most Rev. Duaine Go. Hunt, bishop of the Salt Lake Catholic Diocese, visited Milford to inspect church property and the building progress. Crow Derby Plans Stir Utah Statewide Effort
State Fish and Game officials led by Director Leonard announce a statewide crow derby to curb rising crow and magpie numbers. Traps will be set, banding of prize birds with cash awards from 5 to 100 dollars, and magpies will receive smaller cash notices. Crow hunting will follow state laws with rights to decoys blinds calls and restricted shooting near Utah Lake.

Poachers Active in Utah Warned by State Officials
Chief Deputy Merrill Hand reports ongoing poaching in Utah with waterfowl and deer violations up for review. Fifty four violators were fined in the past two weeks as fines rise, including Delta resident June Johnson fined 25 dollars for out of season duck shooting.

City Council Names Appointments and Ordinances

Margaret Pryor Passes Away in Hyrum
Mrs Margaret Nielsen Pryor 27 died suddenly at a Logan hospital Monday evening shortly after the birth of her first child. Born June 21 1920 at Hyrum she was daughter of David O and Charlotte Allen Nielsen. She married Fred R Pryor Jan 4 1943 in Logan temple and resided with her mother in law in Minersville while her husband served overseas. Surviving are her husband a son six siblings and her parents.

Banner from Polish mission hangs for Milford church
A large red banner from a Warsaw Polish mission decorates the pulpit of Utils Nazarene Mission in Milford, traced to Polish Jews during persecution before the Hitler invasion. Hand painted in Polish Old English, it bears Numbers 24 26 and honors the Lord’s blessing. The banner, gifted through Miss Tordis Christoffersen and Rev. Frank A. McGaw, recalls joy, tears, and prayers invested in the Gospel to Jews and foreign lands.

District American Legion Basketball Tourney set for Milford
Milford hosts the District American Legion Basketball Tournament on February 6 and 7 with Milford Delta Kanab and Cedar City likely to compete. Tickets go on sale February 2 at Corner Drug. Milford Legion also scheduled a January 31 game against Kemmerer Palace Club, a strong non professional squad. they have lost only one game in the 1947-48 season.
